Pressed into my hands by Mindy. One of her favorite readalouds, but I just read it myself. The audio was instantly available on Hoopla. And of course that's my favorite kind of book! Tree-Ear is an orphan who gets apprenticed to a potter. This potter makes the famously beautiful Korean Celadon stoneware. And Tree-Ear wants to learn. This story is touching and beautiful, and had me googling. And crying.

My 10 year old is reading this book so I picked it up. Great story, great characters, and full of interesting historical facts on Korea.

It was alright. I think the only reason I didn't enjoy it more is because I'm definitely far older than the targeted age group. Solid but simplistic story.

We'll be reading this in my classroom. I found it a sweet, thoughtful read and quite enjoyed it ☺️ it is YA/middle grade. Great for 7th grade since it takes place in 12th century Korea. I'm looking forward to seeing what my students think of it. It has a lot of historical content mixed with and interesting story and interesting characters, I thought, striking a good balance.

I really enjoyed this book! I didn't have to read it so slowly like Out Of The Dust and I loved the characters. Crane-man was absolutely my favorite, with a soul as old as his bones. Min's wife, Ajima, is one of the sweetest characters I've ever read about and she really made me think about the kindness you should portray to others. I liked how this novel revolved around the 4 characters, Tree-ear, Ajima, Min, and Crane-man because if a book has too many characters they are sometimes to hard to keep up with. The ending about Crane-man brought tears to my eyes and an aching to my heart but I enjoyed the very last paragraph about the pot, "One thousand cranes." Great book overall!

I had to read it for class and the story goes at quite a slow pace but I read it unwillingly anyway. When I finished the book though, I thought it was a good story :) Not an exciting book, but a good and meaningful one ;D

This book was beautifully written- I grew attached to the characters and loved the relationships they had with one another and the courage and patience they had in the decisions they made. A great story- definitely worthy of its newbery award!
