Don't Let Him in

Lisa Jewell

I love Lisa Jewell thrillers! I liked the way that she set this one up with knowing that the "bad guy" was the "bad guy" from the very beginning, but then adding more and more layers to the story as you listened. I had assumed something about one of the characters, so the ending was a surprise to me. I also appreciated the full cast for the audio!

Not a particularly amazing book but any Lisa Jewell book is wildly entertaining and this one is no different. I don’t love how mental illness is used a a plot devise but there are strong female friendships and a healthy mother-daughter relationship.  It’s a bit difficult to follow at first but once you’re into the story you can just turn your brain off and enjoy the chaotic ride.

I think Lisa Jewell did a very good job in terms of making the reader resent the MC because let me tell you each time I read about something about this mf I got a new wave of anger. Also the ending was very satisfactory, at one point I thought the book was going in another direction but it ended just the way I wanted it to end and I was quite satisfied.

What I didn't like was the fact that the multiple timelines and different plots got me feeling very confused and bored throughout the majority of the book. It took me about 3 months just to finish this because I was so bored while reading this, it started getting interesting after around the 60% mark.

I didn’t love my time with this. In fact, most of the time I actively despised this. To be fair, I think this was Jewell’s goal, so 2 solid stars for that. When it boils down to it though, this just wasn’t satisfying or enjoyable for me. If you want to read about a bad man doing bad things, and be in his horrible head for like 40% of the book, this may be for you.
