Amazing idea, funny and serious. Beautiful artstyle and leaves on perfect cliffhanger of them leaving vegas

I think this is the first graphic novel that I've ever read that has matched my love for [b:Saga #1|16148398|Saga #1|Brian K. Vaughan|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1358637990s/16148398.jpg|25390766]. I seriously loved everything about this comic/graphic novel. The art was stunning; the color scheme was bright and vivid on some pages then gritty and dark on others. The characters were badass but they all had their flaws which humanized them. You know a story has great characters when you can see yourself being being friends with them in real life. I also appreciated how truly diverse these characters were (Nicaraguan, Mexican, African American, Japanese, caucasian) because I think it's important for art to depict a wide array of people. I love how it's painfully obvious that we've only just began to scratch the surface with all of these characters. I'm definitely looking forward to volume 2!

This book has some of the best action scenes I've ever seen in comics.  Otherwise it's well written, but something about the scenario and the characters doesn't quite work for me.  Putting all these outcast punk teenagers in a school together where they get wrapped up in typical high-school politics and drama seems to cheapen the book's punk aesthetic, as I think of punks as being too disinterested in personal status and the opinions of others to get very wrapped up in that stuff.  Punk kids personally investing in a prep-school for assassins is hard for me to imagine, and I don't think this book was able to make the idea believable with these characters.

I liked the characters and the subjects dealt with so much! I really really enjoyed it.

I watched the first episode of the series today; it was so fucking good, I needed to read this. I'm so excited to read the other volumes and to watch more of the episodes because both seem to be amazing.

Also, it's nice to finally be reading something after being almost all month in a reading slump.

I didn't care much for the first half of the book. Marcus isn't a very likable protagonist. Very whiny. And the set up is slow. But once he started trippin on acid, things got a lot more interesting. The character designs are okay. The color palette and shading are the strongest elements along with the structuring of the panels. There were some really fluid and creative transitions. The concept of the entire thing has potential, too, so I'm looking forward to the rest of the volumes.
