The story is fun and very dark but the artwork is the absolute win for me. Looking forward to the next book.
Should have checked this out sooner.
Love the artwork in this.
Will need to try and read the rest of the series.

Really enjoyable. The art and color are gorgeous! I'm very much looking forward to more.
I've been meaning to get back into graphic novels for a while now and I think I've found a great little series to sink my teeth into.
Deadly Class is basically about Marcus, an orphan boy with a dark past, getting picked to join a secret and exclusive assassin school. All the most notorious bad guys' kids attend; from drug cartels kids, to gangsters kids, to serial killers kids, and kids of just general criminals. With a reputation for having killed at a young age, Marcus becomes the prime target of many a twisted psychopath, but luckily for him, he falls into a group of friends that seem to have his back and who hope to make use of his reputation.
I really, really enjoyed this. I loved the art style and the colours used. Well drawn, but with a deliberate sort of roughness to it. It suited the vibe of the novel so perfectly. It had a sort of indie feel to it and visually I found it vibrant and gorgeous.
I loved Marcus's inner monologues; his inner turmoil as his anxiety got the better of him at times. There were times when I really related to him when he opened up to Willie about how he over-thinks things and drives himself nuts with worry. He was just a likeable, relatable character. And another thing, even though he was a badass and one of the few kids in his group who doesn't think twice about murder, he never bragged about his ability, it was things he was bad at that he bragged about, because he was insecure and wanted to fit in, but he was never arrogant when it came to killing. Just great character development, if you ask me.
And I genuinely liked and felt for his friends too; Saya, Willie, Maria, Billy - fantastic characters with so much growth potential.
My only critique is that I wish it has been longer. I was really getting into it and in a flash, it was over just as I felt like it was getting started, but I suppose this is simply a good way to make me hurry up and buy the next one.

Reading this to prepare for the TV show! Wow. I really enjoyed this, the art style was so bright at some parts like Vegas but dark, gritty and raw for others. This story is about high school, but not high school as we know it, a school for assassins. I really liked the build up and the scene changes between the past and the present, how we get to know Marcus' story, how he was homeless and how he got where he is now. He killed 2 people in the first volume wow. He did what he had to, to survive and Marcus high on LSD was hilarious, he was afraid of the mountains.
Marcus is slowly finding his way, smoking and making friends, he is doing what he needs to, to survive at this school.
It's generally very fast paced and I feel like more build up and development with the romance area would be good.
I however loved how Marcus spoke about vulnerability, emotions and his anxiety YES! I also really like all the different races and cultures represented which was so lovely to see.

Humanity is a meaningless spurt of consciousness -- there is no god watching over me. Nothing ever stops the beatings. My life is insignificant.
After reading the afterword from the author, I understood his purpose of writing about Deadly Class more. It's more than just writing about kids violently beating each other up, or about them setting out to assassinate their target. Let me tell you, this does get very violent. There is blood are everywhere. I would not recommend this for younger readers. But the thing is, the message of this book is mostly geared towards them.
Marcus, our main protagonist, is one an unlucky bastard. Really. He is the person readers would be able to connect to the most, not only because he's the main protagonist, but because he deals with the most shit in this book, and we all go through shit. Just when things are starting to get better for him, like a place to stay (when he got in to the school where they teach you assassin stuff, finally had sort-of-friends) bad shit starts happening again. This is something that we all know too well. When we are expect something good to come out of something, we instead get slammed in the face with a huge hurdle that would put us back to where we started. That's basically how Marcus' life was. A constant struggle to keep himself alive.
This book also deals with bullying, revenge, and friendship. How it deals the bullying part is a bit clicheish, but it wasn't really a problem. While Marcus wants to get revenge for the person who he blames for his parent's death, other characters in the story was out to get their revenge as well. To balance it out though, this is not all about negativity, and how bad things keep on happening to people. I love seeing the friendship that blossoms with the characters. Despite the differences in their personality, they jived in well with each other.
The illustration is not the usual type that I go for.It does work well with the story they were trying to tell. The world Marcus lives in is messy, so the art, was a bit messy too. The colors, though, were vibrant and gloomy when they needed to be.
Overall, I liked it. It was a good read. Stuff like this, if not done well, could go bad extremely fast. Luckily, the authors know what they were doing, they knew what they were going for, and that made the story worth reading.
not really my cup of tea but i did really appreciate the anti reagan sentiment and it was fun to read something sort of different!!!!
