This was a good, basic overview. If you score a low EQ, this is probably a very helpful tool. If you're middle of the road or higher, EQ-wise, this might be a waste of your time. It lost a couple stars though, because of the stats in the epilogue. According to this book, men have roughly the same amount of EQ as women and Baby Boomers have almost double the amount of EQ as Millennials. Um, since when?

This book sells the test its based on as a $40 dollar value, but I'd be extremely angry if I paid that much for what I got. The content is good, but a lot of it seems to be cribbed from more therapeutic sources, and then bulked out with corporate business-speak.
Plus, they are unfairly biased against sharks, and I can't let that stand.

Lots of great info! I also took the online class along with it and found it very fun and informative
I enjoyed this book and I think I'll keep coming back to it after reading it. The self-assessment included confirmed the areas that I think I need to improve on in terms of my own emotional intelligence. When I finished the book, I did get the sense that if I wanted to throw myself into the plan, I'd increase my emotional intelligence in a lot of ways. I would like to see more research on the various forms of EQ other than analysis of the book's program. The psych major in me wants to know more about their methods and their basis for why they do things the way they do.
There are definitely good insights here and it's worth reading for sure, but there was also a fair amount of things I didn't care for in it. Many of the 'strategies' felt a little to Dr. Phil & Oprah for me and I felt like maybe they should have cut back on some of the 'cheese' factor.

“Since our brains are wired to make us emotional creatures, your first reaction to an event is always going to be an emotional one. You have no control over this part of the process. You do control the thoughts that follow an emotion, and you have a great deal of say in how you react to an emotion – as long as you are aware of it.”
I loved the concept of this book - how emotions play into the four categories of self assessment, self management, social awareness, and relationship management. But it was just hard to read because of the way it was written - it was very choppy. I think it will be a good reference, but not necessarily a fun read.

Emotional Intelligence 2.0 is very insightful and eye-opening. If you plan on entering a field where you manage people or currently manage people, you should give this book a read. It's pretty short and takes a few hours, so you don't have to invest a ton of time. It comes with a quiz that you take at the beginning and at the end to see if you have grown over the course of the book. I like this feature because it gave me a starting point and allowed me to know that reading EQ 2.0 was beneficial. Overall, it is worth the buy.
