Feeling somewhat off color, I decided to treat myself to a relisten of an old favorite. I had forgotten how much I enjoy this well written tightly plotted novel.  I delighted in the depiction of Miles Vorkodigan as the (initially) haphazard romantic hero, who was trying to juggle romance, and political intrigue and machinations. This is an incredibly trans, friendly book. I do recommend it

Really enjoyed this book and its unusual lack of action. I liked the mixed perspectives.

A hugely satisfying novel. Bujold does space opera well, but this is a comedy of manners that happens to be set on another planet. Miles makes one of the biggest gaffes of his career, but everything will come out right in the end.

Okay, so it's not focused on a grand galactic conflict, or deep issues of identity, but this romantic comedy of a novel is just so much fun I can't resist it. To see Miles approach courtship as another battle--well, it has some of Bujold's funniest writing. The dinner party scene, as well as a finale with a bug-butter battle, is not to be missed. Plus, there's some great political intrigue and it's interesting to see Miles turn his mind to that kind of problem.

Took me a while to get through this because the first half kept getting on my nerves. Also I missed the off-world galactic focus of other books. But once the Count and Countess returned and the ill-fated "omfg miles stop being a douche canoe" dinner party happened I couldn't put it down. Quite a lot of fantastic character building and intrigue and clashing of old guard with new. Hooray Vorkosigans!

How on earth did I give 'A Civil Campaign' only 3 star the first time I read it? I couldn't put it down and was just cracking up with laughter the entire way through.

It's such a refreshing pace to see our main characters fall in love, especially over the length of 2 novels. We had a real chance to see Ekaterin's growth throughout the novel and the sheer cluelessness between her and Miles was truly lovely. I could actually relate to her outrage when she realised how Miles has been manipulating her, and the letter that Miles writes makes me melt.

Maybe I'm just getting older now, and normal hijinks and romance are all I'm really after now.
