Probably closer to 4.5 stars—excellent and extremely actionable book filled with great insights and and lots of levity.

As a parent of an almost 3 year old and a 6 month old, I feel like I did learn some valuable things from this book. I listened to the audiobook and I feel like the author’s narration was very well done. She talked animatedly and like she was speaking to the reader, rather than just reading the book. You can feel her passion for the topic which I really appreciated. My main complaint is that I would have liked more examples to go with the tips, especially when it came to the part on discipline. I would have liked specific instances of child behavior and the disciplining measures that would go with that behavior, in her opinion. That part was vague to me. However, I enjoyed the book overall and am excited to implement some of the things she mentioned; mostly the dedicated, phone-free time to connect with my toddler, and the crafting ideas. The crafting section was eye opening and I found myself getting excited about connecting with my toddler over something that’s so open-ended and fun for both of us. I will say, if you’re looking for a quick fix (or a “bandaid” as she calls it), this is not the book for you. She really gets down to the core of the offending behavior and directs you to start there, and indicates that many of the behaviors can be corrected in that way. (I.e. stressful and fitful bedtime routine? Investigate the child’s diet or spend more dedicated quality time with your child). Not necessarily many tips that are beneficial in the heat of the moment, but rather things to change to get to the root of why the behavior is happening.

Some good advice and confirmation of some things we are doing already. Good listen for useful tips though.

This book is so good and problematic at the same time. If you are comfortable with absorbing the good parts and ignoring the parts that don't align with your values then I do recommend it.

I currently have a 4 month old, but I wanted to see if this book is a keeper, and the answer is YES!

I will have to re-read this on one the future, but for now I will have to just find more Jamie Glowacki books for my shelves! Better review after re-read when my son is just a little bit older but I cant wait to use this information.

Im not into self help books, but this one had information that is helpful instead of telling you what to do. Which I very much appreciate.

Really approachable tips and tricks for connecting to the child you have and the parent you are, instead of for some pie-in-the-sky ideal that doesn't really exist.
