3.5 Stars. I agree with the majority of reviewers who say the last third of the book drags, but it was overall very readable. The story is good and the characters are well developed, but I feel like the book could easily have been cut down by 100 pages. The further you read, the more repetitive it becomes. If I had to listen to Cass describe her 'visions' one more time, I was going to scream. The last third of the book really drags as not much happens once they get off the island, but the ending is decent. I plan to read 'Map of Bones' when it comes out, and am curious to see where the author will take this story.

This wasn't bad, but altogether it fell short of being something that I would recommend. Even though the main characters were on the run, and it should have felt very suspenseful, I didn't ever feel a whole lot of urgency. The characters and the story just kind of ambled along until the end.

Kip, the love interest, wasn't appealing to me at all. The love story itself wasn't great, actually. To have your hero have amnesia, and no personality whatsoever, is not a good way to draw your readers in and make them root for the couple.

Overall this book felt very blah to me, and while I may read the next book in the series, it's not something I'm really anticipating.

The concept of this book was really unique. Not the post apocalyptic part but the Alpha and Omega twin idea. Very interesting and very attention grabbing. There were parts that I felt like were fillers and could've been left out or just too dragged out. But overall I appreciated the author's writing style. I really want to see how this trilogy will take off in the next book. A lot happened in the last 150 pages! A lot.

Meh. The writing is very good, but the plot itself leaves a lot to be desired; it felt underdeveloped and arbitrary at times, and I never felt compelled to finish the book. I'm pretty sure this is the author's first novel, so I have hope that she'll improve, but I also think the story could have used a sharper editor, because the story meanders a little too much for my taste. Definitely still worth a read if you're a fan of dystopias, though.

I was lucky enough to win this book through a Goodread's giveaway.
I really enjoyed The Fire Sermon, particularly the world the characters live in where society is split and twins are connected only in birth and death. I thought that the characters were strong, especially Cass and there were a few twists in the story to keep you reading.
A great read, I can't wait for the next one.

Wow. Just... WOW. This is another book I've put off for a long time, one that I bought on the spur of the moment thanks to the cover and the back blurb. I'd hoped it would be good, but I didn't expect to completely fall in love with it the way I did. It's AMAZING. Such an intriguing and terrifying dystopia where radiation has turned half the population into mutants and changed the way twins are perceived forever. I'll be honest––the opening few chapters were a little slow. But it didn't take long for me to completely love main character Cass, and soon enough I was devouring pages and enjoying the journey she took. I loved the entire story and the plot twists, the side characters Piper and Zoe (ultra kick-butt lady) and of course, secondary character Kip (who I loooooove). The story wasn't filled with typical action, but it was nonetheless a harrowing tale about survival, trust, and sacrifce. Not to mention the HUGE head-spinning twist near the end that changed everything. Such a great book. Oh man, I can't get over it and I'm finishing this review now so I can get started on book two. Pick this one up ASAP!!!

This is a rollicking romp of a tale through a dystopia set in a post-apocalyptic future where children are always born in sets; one perfect and the other deformed. I had almost forgotten how much energy a teen fiction (sorry, young adult) narrative contained. Cass is the Omega to Zach’s Alpha but she does not have any obvious deformities. She is instead a seer and her visions of both the past and future are burden enough.

The pace of this adventure is quick and constantly entertaining. You feel for Cass and the plight of the Omega’s at the hands of the vicious Council, and hope that the Resistance can find a better way. The violence that the Council use on the Omega’s and their plan, while reminiscent of many other fantasy books, also mimics our own world and what some people will do to others in order to feel safe from them. The politics is dangerous and realistic, and the message of freedom and hope that the book contains is positive. I look forward to reading the next in this trilogy.

I really enjoyed The Fire Sermon and I'm looking forward to the next in the series. I thought that it was an adult book though and if read more like a YA book to me. It was hard to remember that the Main Characters were in their mid-twenties, I thought of them as teenagers most of the time.

The story was good and kept me guessing. I'm looking forward to seeing Cass learn more about her seer abilities and making the most of them in her fight to unite the Alphas and Omegas.
