Once again, I was held back from finishing this book for almost a year after it came out. I don’t like the endings of series’ but this one was perfect. I loved every second of this series and this book was no exception. Personally, I found it fascinating since I have been following Jeff Mudgett for awhile and I am fairly well-versed on Jack and H. H. Holmes. Just the right amount of fiction interspersed within these pages.

I don't know why, but I read books 1-3,5 and then I just stopped reading the series. Therefore, I had a hard time getting into the book because I did not remember a lot of details, but I could still enjoy the book.

I think that the Chicago-part was much more interesting than New-York-part. New York was somewhat slow and did not focus much on the mystery part of the story. There was much more focus on the romance part. While I really like Thomas and Audrey Rose together, but it was too slow. The relationship was already very stable in their love, so it was not any angst which is something I love. I was also a bit annoyed by Thomas being so insecure. Audrey Rose said multiple times, “I want you, I love you,” but he still doubted her. Even in the last chapter when he proposed to her again, he started saying, “if you don’t want me anymore, it’s fine.” I really like him, but it was too much at times. The character growth in this book felt pretty stagnant with the exception of Audrey Rose.

The actual murder plot was really good and well done, so I was sad to see how relatively small part it was of the book. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time Audrey Rose was captured by the killer. I also liked that we got to know more about the the brother and his motives. I read the first book a while ago, so I was a little lost at times, but it was written in a way so that I still understood.

Capturing the Devil, the final installment in the Stalking Jack the Ripper series, accomplished everything I needed it to and more. The mystery did take a bit of a backseat to the romance at the beginning of this book, but I didn't mind, especially considering how fast things got back on track.

While the mystery was, again, impeccable, what really made this book for me was the family that Audrey Rose and Thomas put together. Found Family is one of my favorite book tropes, especially when it includes actual family members who fit into the group seamlessly (Uncle, Grandmama, Daciana).

As I mentioned earlier, the romance definitely stepped up a few notches here, but in the best way. I love how Audrey Rose and Thomas are a team no matter what gets thrown at them in every area of their lives.

I'm going to wrap it up here before I start spewing spoilers. I'm not usually a mystery/historical fiction reader, but these books hooked me from page one.  If you haven't read the Stalking Jack the Ripper series, do yourself a favor and do it.

Happy Reading!

Such a wonderful and emotional finale!! I definitely got teary eyed a few times. The mystery tied together beautifully. It was amazing to see a more vulnerable side of Thomas, and a more powerful one to Audrey Rose. I am obsessed with this series and I’m a little sad it’s over :,)

3.5 rounded up. I mostly enjoyed this book, but I ad a hard time with the pacing of this installment of the series. The two sections of the book felt like two separate novels.
