I came to this book looking for something lighthearted and silly to read at work and it provided exactly that but GOD was it dated. Andy manages to find a way to make racist comments about every minority and her hatred of all things fashion reads very "I'm not like other girls", especially since she doesn't ever learn to appreciate fashion in the book. Andy's arc feels overall less satisfying than in the movie as it felt like she learned only half of what she needed to because she is still demeaning her former coworkers at the very end of the text. There were also portions of the book that seemingly made no sense (i.e. a scene in which a character is simultaneously passed out drunk and also helping our protagonist with her makeup,) it may have just been unclear writing that left me confused but either way there were moments that didn't work for me. It was fun to revisit this story, but in the future I will just watch the movie instead.

After putting me through so many pages of that, I expected a bit more to the ending.

This book is not great literature. It’s vapid, unremarkably written, unapologetically pretentious and the characters and plot aren’t especially memorable. That said, it was incredibly entertaining, so I’d consider it a worthwhile read if you either a) have literally nothing else to read b) need to read something that isn’t intellectually taxing in any way. And who knows, you might learn something about fashion. I’m not entirely sure that I did, but I suppose that the next time I see designer clothing, I’ll be able to appreciate it in an entirely new light.

Why oh why did I read so much chick lit. I think it took me a while to realize I didn't like.

I'm in the minority of people who actually like Andrea in the boo  probably. Maybe it's because when I got my first career track job at 23, I became a chain smoking bitch who used to bend over backwards to accommodate a boss that gaslit me. I just get Andy in a way.
