i still have mixed feelings about this book. on the one hand, it really has its moments, but on the other it can be a bit painful to get through as sutter just is so apathetic towards life. also, i feel like there isn’t any closure… like he goes through all this, decides to be better, then folds 2 seconds later ?? i guess that’s kind of the point, but also, feels like an easy out? idk. it’s definitely better than most of the ya novels i’ve been re-reading, but again, not as great as i remember when i first read it as a teen.

To me Sutter was a difficult character to read. I found myself wanting to shake some sense into him. I had hoped his relationship with Aimee would have made him grow up, it had the opposite affect. He dragged a very smart, bright, young girl down with him(well, almost did). He may have showed Aimee, and maybe even his friends, that you can find love in unexpected places/people, but I fear if there ever was a sequel, we would find old Sutter at a bar telling exaggerated stories of his good 'ol days.

So...I liked the movie better. Gasp, I know, but I just felt like book Sutter was way more of a tool than movie Sutter. A lot of his inner monologue just pissed me off.

This book is confusing me. When I began the book I was like "Oh yeah this is good I see what everyone is talking about." But then halfway through the book I thought "maybe not 5 stars but still a solid 4." then as I was approaching 75% of the way through I just was not liking this book for some reason. I was really getting tired of Aimee's character. She came across so incredibly weak. I kept thinking "Why was the author making his co-lead so weak?" But then as I thought about it more I realized Aimee really wasn't a co-lead in this book. She was more of a supporting actress. When I thought about it this way I feel like i really had a new understanding of the book. And with this new understanding I brought my stars back up to 4. Sutter Keely is an incredibly dynamic character. You love him, you hate him, he annoys you, he makes you laugh… like I said… this book confused me. But then I thought maybe that is what makes a book great. If it confuses you and really makes you think about if you actually liked it or not.

There's no denying that this book, and Sutter Keely, is sticking with me.

2.5, which I'm surprised by since I know a lot of people who loved it. Really wish I'd read the traditional version, since I feel like the audio book reading colored my view of the book.

The writing was really great, but reading this is like willingly watching a car crash.

hmmmmm.
I dont know what to think of that, but it was touching.

The book was fairly well written, but I just really didn't like the story that much, and I found Sutter to be a really annoying main character. It was okay, and I read it really quickly because it was short, but it was just okay, nothing to write home about.

Wow. I'm not sure how I feel about this book. I'm going to sleep on it. Full review to come!
