Holly is a new widow in Ireland, trying to come to terms with her husband Gerry succumbing to his brain tumor and dying. As it turns out, he left her a series of letters to help her adapt to this new life, all of its changes, and the odd array of friends and family that remain constant.
I was one of the many people who say the movie before I even realized that the book existed. As always, the movie creators made some drastic changes to the book: half the characters were cut, most scenes were removed, and even the basic setting was changed.
They created a completely different entity. While the movie was more whimsical, hopeful, and romantic, the book was more down to earth and grounded. It's possible to life both but impossible to compare them.
Some of the other reviewers were complaining about how clearly this is someone's first novel. It is basic, doesn't have those frills, and maybe Cecelia Ahern had a long way to go before being a brilliant novelist, but all of that is what makes the story. It's not one for literary fluff. It's a tale about grief and all the twist and turns that come with it. So it may not be pretty, and it doesn't have to be.

It surprised me. I wasn't sure if it was going to be for me but I really enjoyed it. It was a fast read that made me laugh and cry. It was also a pretty easy read for a longer book. I recommend it.
I own the movie that was based on this book. I love the movie. The book was good, but my expectations were that the book would follow the movie pretty closely. I was surprised at how different the book was from the movie. I know movies based on books are usually different in some ways, but this book was so different from the movie that it was almost as if these two stories weren't even the same. The book was good. I just enjoyed the movie more.
I loved this book from beginning to end. I think I cried about every chapter. Very easy to read & all chick lit.
Loved the movie and decided to read the book. As always I love the book more.

I just can't put my finger on it, but something about this book kept me reading but being irritated. It was certainly fluff, but very poorly written fluff. In some ways, I think it minimizes what a widow or widower would be going through that first year. I wanted to like the book because I enjoyed the movie, however, that certainly wasn't the case.
Super cute! :) I liked the book way more than the movie!
As a shameless lover of the movie, I had to read the book that inspired it all. The book was very different, but I liked it, too. I do have to sadly admit, though, that I like the movie a lot better. Maybe that's because I'm not much of a romantic and the movie lets me get all my girly, romantic feelings out within two hours while the book requires me to sit in the romantic drama for a while. Whatever the reason, if you like romances or the movie PS I Love You, go ahead and read the book!
