I initially didn't enjoy this, then i warmed up, then I was confused, then I thought I had the twists figured out, then it twisted, and then again, and then again, and I ended up liking this. I've been waiting for a story with such unlikable characters.

Great pacing, interesting characters, unique location, and lots of twists and turns. I thoroughly enjoyed it!!

I really just needed to finish my Book of the Month challenge and my library had this available on audio. I actually was very impressed by this.
This story follows this woman named Amaya and she gets invited to her ex-best friend Kaavi’s wedding in Sri Lanka. This is not that terrible, but she then learns that Kaavi is marrying Amaya’s ex-boyfriend, Spencer. Now Amaya knows she has to stop the wedding. Now back home to stop the wedding, things get even worse for Amaya when Kaavi goes missing and now Amaya is being accused of killing her.
This has a pretty classic set up of a character goes missing on an island and the best friend is accused of wrongdoing. What makes this particularly interesting is the setting of Sri Lanka. We don’t have a lot of mainstream books being set in this area, and I really loved all of the cultural elements that were included in the story. I’m not a part of this culture, so I can’t speak too much on it, but the gossiping, messy aunties, lowkey made this for me.
The story is told in both the past and little flashbacks to the past, and there is also a detective who is interviewing people at the wedding in an attempt to find out what happened to Kaavi. With these interviews, we get to see how messy some of these people were in this book, and I loved it. I was so entertained by all of it.
There are not that many shocking things that happen honestly, so if that’s what you’re looking for, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this one. However, I think if you’re looking for an entertaining and well paced mystery/thriller, pick this one up.

I wanted to love this more. Good, not great. It had so much promise. An invitation to Amaya’s estranged best friend’s wedding reveals that she is marrying none other than Amaya’s ex-boyfriend. Come Hell, high water, or death, this wedding is not happening and Amaya will make sure of it. Not everyone is leaving this event alive.
I was really interested in reading about Sri Lankan culture and customs and I loved that back drop of the story. What I struggled with was the characters themselves. The interview style was interesting, but the characters didn’t grab me. I wasn’t attached to any of them because I really din’t like any of them.
