Deeply saddening reading about this young girl's life in hiding, knowing how difficult her relationship was with her parents and being subject to blame and scolding for simply being a terrified child.
Of course a big portion of this diary is actually relatively lighthearted as Frank still finds joy in life, especially her friendship with Peter and the crush she had on him, I think it's what made it hard to finish, knowing the diary has no more entries because they were found before Anne could write any more. She was an incredibly thoughtful and clever 14 and 15 year old. It was easy to forget at times how young the author was at times.
That the holocaust ever happened is just unthinkable, that so many died for their race. Heinous, absolutely heinous.

I somehow had never read this before now, and I'm glad I did. There was a lot more humor in it than I was expecting. It made the end even more sad.

WOW wow wow. The abrupt ending of the diary fully got me. I knew the end was nearing, but still nothing prepares you for the realisation that all of Anne’s dreams, hopes and future plans discussed would never be possible. The after word further cements the devastation.
I was also shocked by her maturity at only 14/15. As a diary writer since 15 myself, Anne’s perspective and voice is astounding for her age.
Long and tedious read, but a very important one.

Golven van kippenvel nadat ik de laatste pagina dichtsloeg. Onvoorstelbaar om te denken wat toen is gebeurd. Anne schrijft leuk en persoonlijk wat het nog moeilijker maakt om de laatste pagina's te lezen. Indrukwekkend

I have a big interest in history that relate to a mass, like holocaust. It was a nice journal, compared to mine back in junior high, when I was a boy-crazy and didn't really have anything to write. But then it got boring when the entries mostly talked about Peter (tho I bet my entries about boys were much lot than hers). I wished I could get more information about holocaust, nazi, and Holland at that moment. But apparently the information was less than I expected. At least she had her dream came true, eventho she wasnt here anymore to celebrate it.
Rating: 5/5 ☆
Version/Book:
Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl
(What I believe to be the Definitive Edition with material unreleased in its first punlication.)
TW/Parental Adivsory:
WWII, Descriptive depiction of Jewish families in hiding during the Holocaust. Deals with politics and fear of survival at the time. Anne is going through adolescence. Brief mentioning of menstruation and her body going through changes. Discusses wanting intimacy. Hormones are obvious.
Description:
Anne Frank wrote brilliantly, especially at such a Young age. She delves into fear and war politics, while still holding onto hope and an optimistic perspective that seems rather extraordinary considering the situation of the time.
Review:
Fundamental work in understanding the conditions of this dreadful time in history.
