apparently, i am not living it up here in vegas.. i have read two back to back books about epic nights that ended in marriage... WTH am i doing wrong??!! lol

this story is about Andie...a very controlled attorney with a very very structured life plan

in comes Mack... a pretty OCD cowboy.. but who cares.. he's a hot cowboy!

and... VEGAS!!

ok.. Andie is in Vegas for a bachelorette party for her one of her best friends

ok.. Mack is in (guess where.... yup!) Vegas for his little brothers bachelor party

and yup yup yup.. they meet up at the tables... and flirt flirt flirt.. then drink drink drink.. then holy hotness... a one night stand that yup yup yup ends up in a Vegas Wedding..

fast forward 2 years... and yes.. 2 years.. and noooo they are not happily ever after together after their epic night...

Andie is however getting married shortly, but oops.. guess what? she is already married and does not remember...

so hop on this cowboy love story and see if true love wins... or is a life plan more important?

I enjoy a good “cowboy” book every once in awhile, and after reading the premise for Shine Not Burn I thought I might have a winner on my hands. And while this books is definitely not the winner I was hoping it was, it was completely awful either.

Shine Not Burn is about Andie and Gavin; two people who meet in Vegas, have insane chemistry, get drunk, and end up getting married. Problem number one is that Andie was so drunk she barely remembers Gavin, and definitely doesn’t remember marrying him. So what does she do? Leave Vegas and never talks to Gavin again. Fast forward a few years later when she goes to get a marriage license only to find out she is already married.

Now, I am all for a good romance. And by that I mean, romances aren’t always to best books ever written. There is usually a lot of issues with the book and the writing tends to be not so great, but I enjoy them and they make me happy. However Shine Not Burn lacked one fundamental romance rule…the main characters had very little involvement with each other. I was half way though the book and Andie had spent more time with his mother than him. How is that a good thing ever?

I think Andie and Gavin’s relationship should have been more of a focal point, since you know the book is about them. When Andie and Gavin were in the same scene all they were doing is having sex. I know the sexy bits are a big part of romance, but come on. Let the characters actually build a relationship that doesn’t consist of taking their clothes off.

There were some other issues I had with this book, including Andie being probably the dumbest “smart” person I’ve read in a while. A note to authors: When a character doesn’t something that contradicts everything you said that character was about, it’s not believable and it’s usually very annoying.

I’ve given Shine Not Burn three stars, and I think that might be me being a little generous. I did enjoy some parts of this book, but overall was kinda disappointed.

Ugh, not a fan of the heroine. Still it was better than expected.

I loved, loved this book! It was funny, sweet, sexy and with a hot cowboy!

I really liked Elle Casey's writting, I'm looking forward to read more from her.

I saw a lot of wonderful reviews about this one, so of course I got curious. I've read a few stories where Las Vegas had a big role, but 'Shine Not Burn' is with no doubt one of my favorites so far. Everything was described perfectly, things happened at the right pace, at the right moment.

You can see the evolution in Andie's character. And I fell in love with Mack right away. He was perfect. He never gave up on Andie, and it broke my heart a little when he was sad about losing her. And she was stubborn as hell! I wouldn't think twice if I had that sexy cowboy head over heels in love with me.

The sex scenes were something else. Hot doesn't even come close. I enjoyed reading them a lot.

The secondary characters were awesome too, well developed and very likeable (except for Puke and That Bradley and Hannah Banana).

The humor in this story was another of my favorite things. Some of the situations were so hilarious, I couldn't stop laughing. And the end was great
SpoilerI totally loved the vows Andie wrote that night in Vegas. I was smiling all the time during that scene while Mack read them
.

This book was what I needed right now, after reading a bunch of books lately that didn't reach my heart. I highly recommend it!

"He rides a horse and I drive a clown honkey-horn having Smart Car." Shine not Burn is a laugh out loud, steamy, opposites attract, keep me up waaaaay too late, fantastic book, with a believable story line! I have read all of Elle Casey's other books and so it was a no brainer when it came to whether or not read this book too.

Andie is a driven, career focused woman on a mission, she has a plan and is GOING to meet her life goals in the next ten years. Mack is hard working rancher from the country and loves every minute of it. Both get dragged to Las Vegas by friends/family for an overnight trip, which goes from being the responsible ones to disappearing for the night. You get a glimpse into what happens then jumps to two years in the future. Don't worry this isn't your typical "What happens in Vegas" story and I definitely could not predict what was going to happen next. I loved every minute of it and can't wait until Elle Casey's next adult romance!

"Shine Not Burn" by Elle Casey is a cute story between a no-nonsense lawyer from the city, Andrea "Andie" Marks, and a down-home cowboy from the country, Gavin "Mack" MacKenzie. Their paths cross at a blackjack table in Vegas, while both participating in bachelorette/bachelor outings with their groups. There's instant attraction and "crazy monkey sex" (Andie's words, not mine) and then poof! The next morning, Andie wakes up, barely remembering what happened the night before (a good reason to avoid too much alcohol, people!)...which kinda threw me for a loop considering the sex seemed rather unforgettable but oh well.

Fast forward to two years later: Andie is now engaged to "that Bradley" and is no longer in touch with her best friends and is at odds with friend/assistant Ruby. She receives incredible news a week before her wedding: she's a married woman and the nuptials occurred in Vegas...two years ago...to a certain Gavin MacKenzie. ^.^ So, off Andie goes to Mack's family's ranch in order to get him to sign off on a divorce and/or annulment. But, Mack has other plans...

Like I earlier mentioned, this was a cute story. There's a bit of humor, usually at the expense of Andie, who seems to have a knack for falling, tripping, etc. The fact that Mack seemed to still be in love with Andie even after she failed to remember what happened that one night they were together had me raising my eyebrow but, all in all, "Shine Not Burn" is a good, light read. ^.^
