Like the first two thirds of this was pretty good. Liked the LGBT thing. BUT. The ending is ridiculous and stupid, it completely negates everything else that happened in the book. No progress is made. Everything is lost and there is no reason for it.

It seems others did not enjoy this one, but for me it felt like an important warning.

I do wish it wasn't wrapped up in one book, though. This could have easily been a series.

For those who move fast and want ro slow down, check out this book.

Honestly, I didn't like this book at all. The premise was fine, the characters were fine, the ideas were ok. But after reading so much SF that has interesting critiques of the world, this one falls so flat that it becomes uninteresting. The characters have no intrinsic motivations, no chemistry, no good critique of what the world could actually become, and take the most idiotic decisions to make everything fall apart in the end. It's not poignant, it's dumb. What gives it more stars is the art style, which, although I personally don't like it, it's the best for the type of story they want to tell, even when the story isn't good.

It took me a while to figure out what was going on but once I did, I enjoyed the twisty look into the alternative future. I gave it four stars instead of three because I really liked the ending. That being said, it got a little cult-Iike in the end. I’ve never read any Vonnegut (whom this was patterned off of) so I’m not sure how close this is to his writing. Definitely interested in reading Vonnegut (one of my husband’s favorites), just haven’t yet.
Anyway, interesting twists but the cult tone was off-putting. Seemed a bit of pick your poison, literally.

While visually was great, it lacked everywhere else.

This is set in some sci-fi dystopia/utopia world and there was just no world building. I was left confused to what the hell this world was and never really got an explanation. On top of being rushed to finish the story, especially the romance, it just never connected.

In a hyper future, speed and efficiency rule the day. Everything is sped up, from literature’s classics to movies. People end sentences with, “Go”, letting the other person know it’s their turn to speak. Angela is a teen who hates this crazy pace of living, especially when her grandfather is being sent off to a “reduction colony” because he can’t keep his numbers up. Angela goes off in search of something he’s left for her and finds her way into an underground community of citizens rebelling against the hyper society. She joins the movement, but their plan to free society from this delirious pace – a drug called Decelerate Blue – is in danger of being found out by the authorities.

This is a case where I love the idea, but the execution left me a little cold. I love the idea of this crazy hyper society where everything is skin deep; no one has real conversations anymore, and even Shakespeare has been edited for brevity. It’s an outcome that is chilling in its plausibility and is begging for a dystopian telling. Decelerate Blue just didn’t grab me like I hoped it would; the graphic novel had powerful moments, but didn’t sit down and unpack them enough to invest me in the characters. The ending bordered on melodramatic, and left me frustrated. I did want to know more, though: what happened after? Did society examine what happened, or did they continue on as if nothing happened? Will the movement continue? Like I said, great ideas, stumbled in the execution.

I absolutely loved this graphic novel! Set in a dystopian future where everyone is pressured to move at lightening speed. I loved the way the queer characters were written- no muss, no fuss surrounding their sexuality- it wasn’t a defining feature of the plot... which was refreshing. They simply fell in love. The use of select full color panels in this mostly black and white book was highly effective.

I honestly didn’t even get far enough into Decelerate Blue to know what age group would like it best. Apparently, whenever this story takes place, everyone ends their conversations with “Go.” Like people do with walkie talkies or radios. As in, “What’s your location? Over.” Or, “I’m headed to the station. See you soon. Over and out.”

But they’re talking to each other in person! Unless I missed something.

Tell me, would you find it annoying if every time you had a conversation with someone, it went like this:

“I’m tired. Go.”

“Why are you tired? Go.”

“Because I had a bad dream last night. Go.”

Well? (Go.)

Hah.

The whole story was dialogue (until I gave up.) I just couldn’t do it. I’m sure it had a major part of the storyline, and I probably missed out on a great book. But it just wasn’t for me.

Future-dystopian world where even speech is regulated. Girl decides to break out. Discovers underground resistance. Things get complicated.

The language here really stood out to me. Rapp is a thoughtful, brainy writer.

Gorgeous illustration work by [a: Mike Cavallaro|1282328|Mike Cavallaro|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png]. I grabbed one of the panels from page 137 for #projectraintattoo. Especially appreciate the lack of umbrellas. :)

More accessible than Rapps other GN.
Black and white illustrations (although someone missed an opportunity by not making it Blue and White).

Booktalked this at four area high schools in September 2017.
