Between Life & Death was a fun, unique read. Starting out with the cursed being burned on a pyre was definitely a great way to pull you right into the story!

This is the first book in a series that embodies all of the fantasy elements we love: forbidden magic, political conflict, hidden identity, bargains, gods, fated mates, found family, spice, and more! This story follows Sage who joins a rebel group after her brother is conscripted to the war for the king. Her plan is to get him out. Von, the leader of the rebels, was an unexpected distraction for Sage as he helps her find her brother. This story is fairly predictable but in a good way. If you read a lot of fantasy, you come to expect certain things, and this book has it. I really enjoyed the story and can’t wait to see what happens next.
I have no idea what went on in this book, but it was hot so that automatically gives it 3/5. He also has shadow powers and dark hair so that adds another star.
4/5 stars.

I think overall story has some great potential. I would have enjoyed a bit more of world building and build up of tension between the FMC and MMC. The FMC doesn’t seem to question much, for the most part goes along with whatever is happening, accepts this bond she has fairly quick and again without much questioning. There were times where wording choice threw me off and pulled me out of the story a bit.
I think we were left with a lot of questions that I would have expected a little bit more to be explained by this point but maybe that’s the authors intent to leave us questioning and wanting more.
I’ll give the next book a chance because for the most part I enjoyed it just hoping for a little more in the next one.

I love fantasy books, they’re the majority of what I read. This one was amazing. I cannot wait to read more!!!

Like a hot meal on a hot day.
Reading this was like eating hot Chips on a hot day: I love hot chips year round, but they're not always great.
The story had potential and promise, the characters did too. But the execution just didn't quite hit the mark. It felt almost too rushed in some parts, and dragged on in others. I found it also seemed to chop and change with the style of writing; some chapters filled with intricate descriptions and others more attuned to reading a teenage girls diary: it was consistently inconsistent.
I remarked to a friend a few times that the saving grace was the promise of top tier smuttiness. Imagine my surprise when I reached the end of the book only to find our FMF and MMC never got further than fingers and tongues. Fantastic fingers and tongues. But only fingers and tongues, never more.

I could NOT put this book down! But i also didn't want it to end! It draws you in right from the start and keeps you wondering what's gonna happen next! Also, Von is giving major viking vibes! Hello!! I mean, who wouldn't wanna be called a goddess??

So glad I finally picked this up. This type of star-crossed lovers yet also fated mates across time is the type of thing I totally lose it over and this is everything I could have wanted and then some. If JLA's Nyktos and Cassian from ACOTAR had a baby, that baby would be Von which is perfection in my book.
