Concept could have been interesting with the god of death and goddess of life. However, the entire plot was people knowing secrets the fmc didn’t and the fmc literally having no desire to ask or know anything. The sense of urgency wasn’t there and the way Sage was endangered most of the book and just left alone all the time was confusing to me as a reader. I also wished more people were murdered because they were unbearable. Will I read the next book? Reluctantly, I absolutely will.
3.5⭐️ Another book where I'm hoping book 2 fills in some massive gaps; needs more from Von or even Arkyn's POV. Overall predictable but enjoyable
What a huge waste of time. I finished the book a d still have no fing clue as to what is going on. I will NOT be continuing this series. No character building, all very vague. Did not enjoy nor recommend.
Not bad! Annoyed it ended on a cliffhanger, but I would read the next one to see where things go

I wanted to like this so bad.
The pet names are cringy af. No idea what time period this is. Sage is clueless and annoying. No character chemistry at all. Plot was rushed and not really explained thoroughly????
It has some great spots but overall it fell flat. Reading “Kitten” every other page was annoying af.

Three days from start to finish for this book was way better than I anticipated as a full time momma this week. A debut novel by a Canadian author has left me begging for the end of February so I can read the second book.
Kot sends the reader into Edenvale where Curses and the Old Gods are shunned but the New Gods are cherished.
Sage is a badass FMC who is strong willed and quick to question motives. She is deeply devoted to her found family -Ezra and Kaleb- and feels deeply for the Cursed ones who are Cleansed.
Von is the dark, mysterious, drop dead gorgeous MMC with “touch her and ☠️” vibes and jealous tendencies. He’s the epitome of sexy male lead with a dark backstory, a taste for the blood of his lover, and an overly protective side that makes me swoon over fictional men.
Therapy banter and slow burn between the main couple was perfection. The steamy scenes got my heart racing even with the characters going only as far as oral. I can’t wait to see what happens to them in the second book because I am desperate for the full home run for both of the characters.
Finally, the side characters provide stability, friendship, and multiple levels of betrayal which leads the reader to contemplate how a person would handle specific situations when given the chance.
There were only two true downfalls to this book - it's predictability, and Sage's... lack of restraint.
The idea was great and I truly enjoyed reading it (and I would mention that I feel as though things weren't described well enough, but I fear that's just me 3am brain skipping it, so it doesn't factor into my review) and I actually loved the author's writing.
But again, every major 'plot twist' I guessed mere pages into the book. The thing is, Sage is clueless in this book about the world around her, which frustratingly makes the reader clueless as well, and yet I still knew exactly what was coming next. It's like we got both sides of a bad coin. Knowing nothing but I knew that was coming.
I just found Sage's character to be frustrating at times - she rushed into things and didn't properly think them through. However, this was somewhat acknowledged and does open up room for character development.
Somewhat excited for the next book.
