Good start to this Falling Kingdoms spin off. I thought it would be weird that some of it takes place in modern day and some in Mytica, but it didn't bother me. There were 3 main POV's Crys and Farrell who at first I found both annoying, and Maddox who was definitely my favorite but probably because his takes place in Mytica. The other two grew on me though. There were some twists that surprised me, and I can't wait for book two.

Review: I love the world that Morgan Rhodes has created and this is no different. I really enjoyed the implementation of the real world mixed with her magical one, I think it was done so well and executed amazingly.

Despite the fact that I read this book and the second book in a matter of days, I can’t give it more than one star. The author announced that there will probably never be a third book (even though this is advertised as a trilogy), thus this series will never be finished and I feel like I’ve wasted my time on a story that will never be complete. There are so many cliff hangers and details left unfinished. Don’t waste your time on this series!

I loved this spin-off! I liked the way the characters ended up meeting. It fit together really well.

More like a 2.5.

It was fine, kind of cheesy and ridiculous at moments, (had to suspend belief a lot, it felt) but that's kind of what I expected -- although not to such large amounts. Still, Rhodes has a way with characters even if I'm not her number one fan, making me want to know more about them while I'm reading. I'm honestly not sure if I'll continue on with this particular series, but Falling Kingdoms remains one of the most entertaining series I've read recently, and I definitely recommend that series over this one right now!

I finished this book on a plane home over two hours because it was so magical and intoxicating and I am also super proud of myself for guessing one of the plot twists but not quite guessing it completely. I now have suspicions for the next book and things that weren't completely explained that I am chomping at the bit to understand.

I went through heaven and hell to get a copy of this book (long story) and it was certainly worth it. Just before I start raving about how amazing this book is, I shall say there are spoilers so beware. Anyway, if u haven't figured it out already, I freaking love this book. I was a huge fan of the Falling Kingdoms series since I read it (which wasn't that long ago, but you cannot deny my love for it), so I obviously had to get the spin off series to this series that I love so dearly. So when I finally got it, I read through it like there were only 5 pages. I knew that there would be ties to the Falling Kingdoms world but I don't know, I didn't expect to actually see Valoria. I'm also surprised that they mentioned Eva and her myth. I'm gonna be honest here and say that I haven't read the Falling Kingdoms series in a while, so I don't remember everything, so..... yeah. And this whole deal with this Markus guy, it is both fascinating and terrifying. He's a complete mystery that I'm desperately trying to explain despite the lack of information. Also one thing seemed to have confused me but will probably be explained later is if Becca travelled through dimensions, then that makes modern Toronto the same time all the shit with Valoria is going down. So that makes Falling Kingdoms happen in the future since Valoria and Cleiona are gone. Or Becca time travelled whilst also dimensions traveling. I don't know. Hopefully that shall also explain. Anyway. past this random babble from a random Indian girl in New England, I think A Book Of Spirits and Thieves is absolutely magnificent and wonderful and marvelous and other adjectives and it made me want the next one so bad so I can see if Maddox and Becca ever see each other again (fingers crossed). In other words, this book is amazing and you should read it.... after you read the Falling Kingdoms books.

Not as good as Falling Kingdoms, but a quick read. I like that it was set in Toronto and that the Crys liked photography, but overall everything felt flat.

I am not going to lie, I was a bit disappointed in this one. Being a huge fan of the Falling Kingdom series, I had very high expectations of BS&T and unfortunately to me, it read like a very simplified, almost dumbed down-for lack of a better word-children's book.
Characters were all one dimensional, and personally I was not rooting for anyone because nobody was interesting enough. In its defense, it picked up around 50 pages from the end but still, huge plot twists just for shock value weren't enough to save it. I was distracted all the time while reading it and I found it difficult to follow, and not because it had a complex and tangled story (I wish!), but simply because it was that boring.
That being said, I will still make an attempt to read book 2 because I love Rhodes writing and I know she can do a way better job than this. Here's hoping!
