This book took me forever to read and I’m still not 100% sure what the plot was supposed to be. Very disappointed considering I really enjoyed “Such a Fun Age”.

KR’s first book was good not great to me. So I wasn’t sure how I would like this one after seeing all the hype.

It was nothing like I thought it would be based on the description and my memory of her earlier writing (given that was like 5 years ago as well and memory is flawed).

To say I loved this book doesn’t seem right. I INHALED it guys. The characters were fascinating and unique and horrible and so tangible and flawed. They grew/developed in realistic ways. The book was maddening at times because there was so much we saw that each character didn’t. But I couldn’t put it down.

Funny, sad, awkward, painful, hopeful, realistic, authentic??? I need more writers to write conversations like she does.

I really agonised about this because Kiley Reid is a great writer and I loved Such a Fun Age. However I really did not not like the characters. I think they are very realistic and there is so much that I relate too with Miley and Kennedy in particular but I just could not bear to listen to them anymore. The narrator was also INCREDIBLE, she made each voice distinct and I'm in awe of how easy she made it sound. But I was dreading how the story was going to unfold. I will hopefully enjoy her next book.

honestly a nothing sandwich but somehow also a lot, and the big climax made me irritated

While I kind of enjoyed the journey, I'm not sure where I was going...

[a:Kiley Reid|18257829|Kiley Reid|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1584271436p2/18257829.jpg] reminds me of [a:Celeste Ng|164692|Celeste Ng|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1663691487p2/164692.jpg] in that she's creating a really nice niche for herself in fiction - her second book is very similar to her first in terms of themes, tone, types of relationships, issues explored, etc., but it's not repetitive at all. I wish more authors would do this, honestly - explore different facets of the same issues, places, and themes.

Come and Get It is expertly written, weaving in three POVs but providing insight into many more characters. Every character in this book is complex and fleshed out. Definitely a character-driven book with a little less plot, so if you don't like that it might not be for you. But I really enjoyed it and I look forward to what Reid will continue to write.

An incredibly realistic depiction of messy characters making bad decisions while navigating class, race, sexuality and friendships while living in a college dorm.

This is the most realistic depiction of what it's like to live in a dorm with people you barely know that I have ever encountered. Further, the characters all feel so real and raw, exactly like people you'd meet at college. They are all messy and make bad decisions, while knowing they are bad decisions, and still finding ways to justify them to themselves.

This is very much a character driven story with very minimal plot and a kind of meandering narrative. I love character driven stories, especially when the characters are done as well as they are here. I can see why this doesn't work for all readers, but it worked perfectly for me.

The author's research and interviews done with young women on college campuses makes this novel feel so alive and realistic. So many aspects and character interactions reminded me of my own college experience and evoked such strong emotions of that time.

This book has a focus on gossip and how people perceive themselves, want to be perceived, and perceive others, especially in instances where you want to be liked, even if you don't like the people you want to be liked by. The convoluted and complex relationships and experiences of young women from varying backgrounds all lumped together in a dorm room makes for the perfect exploration of these themes.

Again, I can see how this would not work for all readers, especially those that value a strong plot, but this was everything to me
