This is not another self help book. If you're looking for helpful hints or a list of tips to live life well, you picked up the wrong book. Instead, this book is like a conversation with an old friend (even if it's your first read from this author like it was mine). As Shauna tells you her story, you may find truth that resonates into your own life. Big truths are dished out in a way I found easy to chew on and swallow at my pace. Even when I realized I wasn't going to finish the book on my original timeline, I re-borrowed it and continued on eager to finish.

I've heard of Shauna Niequist a number of times and was curious to try her. Unfortunately this one didn't quite land with me because we simply don't have the same problems, so I didn't find a lot to connect with.

SHAUNA!!!!!!!!!

Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh! Shauna!!! You are the woman! Thank you for your transparency, thank you for your beautiful writing, thank you for your wit and thank you for your broken!

I think it's possible that, by reading bread and wine first, I've ruined myself forever for Shauna Niequist. This collection of essays was lovely enough. and the side of my completed book still has a few book darts stuck in it for the ones I want to cone back to later, but not as many as I was expecting based on the way I had heard about this book and the praise it is garnering. regardless, I am happy to have read it and I'm glad to be working through the videos and study guide online.

The author of this self-help book is an extroverted, people-pleasing over-achiever with a demanding highly successful career who has a hard time saying no to people. In other words we are exact opposites. I couldn’t relate to half of her personal experiences. I’m frankly shocked that so many people can...

That’s not to say there wasn’t merit to her words, because there was. Slowing down and enjoying life is something I think every human in America struggles with as we place so much emphasis on productivity. Our happiness often feels attached to how productive we can be with our time. And I think this was the authors main point... there was just a lot of sifting through I unrelatable stories about turning down huge gigs, saying no to friends and enjoying her fancy rented house by a lake before you got to that little golden nugget.

Not a bad book, just not as helpful or insightful as I was hoping it would be.

At one point the author goes on a tangent about how she says yes to everything and brags about having a favorite shirt that says “yes.” and then she says something along the lines of, “can you even imagine entering a room a finding a person with the word “no” written on their shirt? Who would want to sit next to that bundle of joy.” And I was like ✋

This book has been hard to read. I'm a Christian and I enjoy reading books centered and grounded in GOD but this book honestly felt more about her and her needs than a book to reach out to everyone a CHRIST centered approach to rest.

I have literally struggled to get through 25%. I DNF'd and it's not for me.
