3/5 stars!
This was honestly a really confusing read. The book is titled “the rewind” but it doesn’t need to be told that way. It sounds like it was told in mostly flashbacks AND switches between two perspectives. I didn’t enjoy that at all about the story, I felt like it was moving too slow because of it.
It was a falling for each other all over again. Which was cute but I don’t like the way it was written.
Unfortunately I wouldn’t recommend this.

I don’t know about this book. I think everyone in this book could benefit from therapy.

Ezra is clearly trying to fill some emptiness, and seems to be the type of person who can’t be single. Also, he is a goody-goody but gets blackout drunk and he’s scared of risks but gambles?

There’s no way in my mind for it to be acceptable for 30 year old to not be able to control themselves better.

Bummer to start off my year of reading with such a lane book. The premise was great, but the execution was awful. So much happened, and yet none of it actually happened in the book. So weird.

Also, 1) I remember 1999, and I remember being one of very few people with a cell phone. I also definitely had a pager because long distance calls weren’t a thing yet. I went to school in a different area code from my phone number, and no one could call my cell without making a long distance call…the way cell phones were discussed in the story was totally wrong and it drove me crazy.

And 2) I get that this was set in 1999, but I don’t need to be reminded every other page that she was wearing Doc Martins and he was wearing Sambas. It was so weird. I’ve never heard a shoe brand mentioned so many times in one book.

My first book of 2023 was such a disappointment. The characters lacked development and were just boring. This is marked as a romance but I honestly don’t know if that fits. I didn’t feel the attraction to the main two people that were exes reunited. The banter was there, but even that was lacking. I finished it, but I felt like it was such a waste.

3.5 maybe a 3.75.

Hate and Love are two sides of the same coin. You can't hate something if there is no Love involved and I feel Frankie and Ezra's story was that. They never hated each other. They loved each other, hurt each other but the undercurrent was love. They just had some communicating to do.

This definitely read more like Literary Fiction novel the a romance (A romance novel is what I wanted, that's on me for not double checking) It reminds me more of Taylor Jenkin Reid or Jill Santapolo.

The end felt a little rushed for me, like the reunion is over like 48 hours so it felt fast but they spent most of the book not wanting to be in the same room together and then in the epilogue going to London to meet his brother. I like that they got together, it just felt jarring.

I didn't love the child loss part, that could have been skipped . I loved the way Frankie connects to music and how it ties into their memories. I liked the overall plot. I liked that infidelity wasn't Mimis downfall because I was waiting for it.

I thought it was pretty good.

About as good as you can expect a book would be when it consists of 340 pages of events that all took place on the same day, apart from random ramblings of the past. Found myself skimming the pages it was so boring at times.
