Almost quite good. By the end, this book felt like a setup for the next in the series. I was also confused by the number of characters named Ellie/Edie, and the chapters told from the first person were unexpected and disorientating. Still, I see the similarities to Elizabeth George, and I always prefer a mystery where female characters and victims have agency as opposed to acting as foils for warped male desire/fantasy.

I really enjoyed this read - it's not what you think and things turned out interesting!!

Satisfying British procedural for fans of disheveled lady detectives who still get the job done and aren't called "girl".

I almost DNFed this several times, but something kept me curious about the investigation aspect despite its slow pacing at times. The ending was quite meh, too neatly wrapped up for my taste. This was definitely focused more on the characters and their personal lives, and most of them were insufferable, but I did enjoy the writing style and the psychological aspects of this.

This was an excellent read. Very quick, well written characters, and I'm hoping there will be more.

I'd say 3 and a half stars. A young Cambridge, UK student, the daughter of nobility, goes missing triggering a large police and media case. DS Manon Bradshaw of the Cambridge Police, single and lonely, is on the team investigating the missing person case that might be connected to some other crimes. The book is written from multiple points of view (not one of my favorite plot devices) and there is more emphasis on personality and psychology than the mystery. The book is very readable and had an interesting premise, but I would have preferred more of an emphasis on the investigation.
