Wow! This was was an amazing book. I don’t usually have tears in my eyes while reading. Yes, I get sad and I feel for the characters, because who doesn’t get invested? But man! Tears! Evie and Ridge really started off with the love/hate relationship. Both coming from less than stellar upbringings. I really loved enjoyed how it wasn’t an easy road for these two. How both worked for their growth as a couple and as individuals. After the 50% mark I couldn’t put it down and stayed up to midnight to finish it. So good.

I was very lucky to be invited on the Emery Rose ARC team! I am a huge fan of Emery's writing. She writes with such emotion, that there isn't a character I can't like. She makes sure she writes their social side, as well as their raw side. And this continued into When Wrecked Meets Ruined.
This is book #4 in the Lost Stars series. I do recommend reading this series in order however this can be read as a standalone, but to feel the real emotional impact of all characters - At least read When the Storm Breaks (book #2) beforehand.
Ridge is the enigma. He turned up on his older brother's porch at 17, lost & confused, with no where else to go. With the death of his mum from an overdose & a father not around, his older brother is the only person he could turn too or be homeless. Brody, his older brother, took him in straight away. With Brody owning a horse ranch in Texas, & Ridge growing up in Chicago, it did take him some time to find his bearings. But with the support of his brother, support he has never had before, he found himself. And in doing so, found Evie too.
Evie grew up with a mother who cared about her next fix, than her children. With a new 2 year old sister, Evie went from trying to graduate high school, to being a single mum to her younger sister. She works at the local diner to make her own money & save / have money for her toddler sister, and only depends on one person, her best friend; Quinn. She knows Ridge is a football player, & a bit of a playboy, and chooses she doesn't want anything to do with him. But as life keeps bringing them to hang, they become friends that quickly move into a Summer fling before they go off to college. Only with them both having a lot more in common then once thought, they find themselves falling in love for the first time. With Ridge set to go to college a couple of hours away, & Evie wanting to stay back to be close to her younger sister, can they make it work outside the Summer fling?
This book is written in 3 parts. First part is them in high school & getting together at the end of their senior year & finding themselves in each other over the Summer. Second part is college life. Third part is their official ending. Will they get the happy ending?
There is a traumatic scene which I shall include the trigger warnings for. And I do wish we got to have more of Evie's POV about this scene. She goes through an emotional damage including pushing everyone away, & I do wish we got more of that. There was also a scene that they were penpals in high school which was skipped over a bit too quickly - I wish we got more of that.
However I still loved it & I can't wait to get more in this cowboy Texas world with the McCallister family!
4/5 stars with 3/5 steam.
{trigger warnings; drug use, sexual assault, depression}

This series is amazing!!
This book follows Ridge and Evie, both kids from the wrong side of tracks who go through so much and gravitate towards each other. Some spots are told in parallel to event that happen in Book 3 so this series should most definitely be read in order because it follows the same family just different couples throughout their lives. All family members make an appearance in this book as well.
This story also has several time gaps where it jumps ahead. It starts off from when Ridge and Evie are both 16 and then time jumps twice to when they are 27.
Fantastic book.

“He was wrecked, and I was ruined, but God, we burned so bright. And our love… it was invincible.”
This series has my heart. I have been anxiously awaiting Ridge and Evie’s story. I’m happy to say it did not disappoint. Emery Rose always writes such angsty, emotional romances to capture my attention and leave me stunned.
“We would either save each other. Or destroy each other.”
Ridge McCallister. The newest football star after coming to live with his half-brother, finally escaping his awful childhood. He is a popular playboy that gets anyone he wants… until Evie Bellamy. Evie is unattainable by every guy in school and keeps to herself. With her horrible home life, she doesn’t have the time or energy for typical high school things.
These two find solace in each other and decide to be together for the summer, as neither can see themselves committing with how their lives are heading. Their summer fling turns into feelings they never expected and sparks something that will consume them for years to come. These two have something they can’t seem to break, even when they want to.
“I wanted to fix her. Put all her broken pieces back together.”
This story is full of angst, emotional, heartwarming moments, spice scenes, good and bad family members, and overall, two people made for each other. You can tell how much Ridge and Evie need each other, even after time apart. They both go through so much, growing individually and together. I am normally skeptical about plots like this and time jumps, but this was done so well. The first part intrigued me, the second part consumed me, the third part wrecked me, and the fourth part healed me.
Ridge and Evie are standout characters for me. I love when two broken people feel whole together. Ridge took me by surprise in the best way and I admire Evie so much. Evie of all people deserves someone who will run four and a half miles just for a kiss, and wants her to get her dream house even more than she does.
“Because she is mine, and I am hers. And we are everything.”
