I enjoyed this book so much. The plot kept my interest, and I loved the characters. The tropes in this book were perfect. I loved the development of Leo and Mary's relationship, especially how they interacted when she was in close proximity to him. Mary was such a different main female character, and I love that about her, especially her love of computer games, which added an element of difference to her character. Leo was the perfect male main character, and I loved his character, which was a brilliant combination of jokester and seriousness. The development of Leo and Mary's relationship, especially when they realised how they had been connected in the past, was perfect. Kandi did an amazing job.

Honestly this could range from a 3.5 to a 4 star. I’m not entirely sure where I land for it. Overall I liked it but just didn’t have me going crazy and giddy. I had a fun time getting back into this series during fall and football season. It’s a great fall read. It was interesting to see this book done so differently than the rest of the series. It started off really strong with the tension, the past history, her “hating” him and he has no idea why. But being a sweetheart regardless. Although the first half was great it kind of lost me after that. The smut scenes got a bit repetitive, but maybe my book tastes are changing too. It was all pretty predictable as well. However the absolute best part of this was his down bad this man Leo is for Mary.

Kandi Steiner Killed it with this final installment in the Red Zone Rivals series. Leo Hernandez fixed my soul. Cocky football star MMC gets a second chance with the curvy tattoo artist who finds herself being his roommate over the summer. This book was EVERYTHING and Mary and Leo are definitely my favorite couple in this world.

The tattooed girl and the football player / second chance / they were cyber pen pals/gaming buddies / forced proximity/roommates

I like this well enough but felt it lost momentum in the second half once they’d gotten together cause realistically there wasn’t a whole lot of plot going on for either of them, or much depth into their own stories. E.g. there were frequent references to Leo’s relationship with his dad but he didn’t appear in a single scene nor did they have one on-page conversation. It wasn’t a problem just an example of how the book didn’t really delve into anything too far.

I was pleased the 3rd act climax was resolved relatively quickly, that seems to be a pattern for this author. I will say that while I liked Leo as a character, he lacked some of the vim for me and the MMC, idk if it’s cause he was always on the back foot with having to grovel but I just felt like a lil bit of the fire was missing. I prefer a bit more antagonism when the FMC is being mean maybe.

leo is EVERYTHING

where do i even begin?! i did not know i needed Leo Hernandez and now i can say that i cannot live without him, lmao. and the spice?? immaculate!!!!
