My favorite when I was a teen.

My goodness this was a roller coaster of emotions. I had a nervous knot in my stomach that started at chapter two and continued all the way through to the end.

Equally as enjoyable as ‘This Rough Magic’, also set in Greece and just as adventurous and funny a read.

This was the first of Mary Stewart's books that I read as a teen. I think it started my attraction to mysteries...
mysterious tense slow-paced

Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

Cute, fun, adventurous, engaging, somewhat frothy. A little slow in the very beginning, but maintains a good once once it picks up. Enjoyed the strong heroine— even if she was a tad unrealistic. Some mild language throughout.

After a fairly good beginning, with lovely descriptions of the Cretan countryside, the plot became increasingly unlikely, with the characters' behavior cartoonish and generally unbelievable.

Period-typical ethnic weirdness (not racism, more stereotyping) pulls down the grade from a five. Delightful book otherwise.

This was my first ever Mary Stewart. I think I was in fifth grade and I was at the library with my mom when she suggested it. It was love right away! Mary Stewart's descriptions of the locations she sets her stories in are absolutely magical. I feel almost as if I have been to Crete and that I have some vague fuzzy memories about the beauty of it, the summer heat, and the sounds of the insects and wildlife. Anyways, The Moonspinners will always hold a very special place in my heart. Hopefully one day I will get to fill the spot next to it with actual memories from visiting Crete.
