Another funny book for the kids. Perfect for the spooky season! May be a little dark for those easily scared.

Many people claimed this book is so much like Harry Potter but more gothic-y. I totally can see that but I wish its beginning and middle could’ve better but I can see it is slowly building up at ending. It got me curious for next book. Could this next book be more enthralling, perhaps? But I do really enjoyed main character’s relationship with his malefactor, Alastor. They’re the reason why I’m reading it. It is like Arthur and Merlin OR Eddie and Vemon relationship kind of thing.

This was a fun and whimsical little story that I thoroughly enjoyed. I feel like this would have been a much better read to do around Halloween or fall time since so much of the vibes of this book had spooky themes without being outright scary.

It kinda felt like if Halloween Town and Percy Jackson were to have a love child with a splash of Paranorman thrown in. Even though this book is targeted at middle grade ages, I feel like as an adult there were still tons of fun things that are available to be appreciated. While some of the plot could be seen coming, and there were some small lulls in the story overall I think this was a very entertaining book and I can't wait for the next in the series! I wish that it didn't end on such a cliff hanger, but Prosper made for such a loveable main character that I really enjoyed seeing how his journey unfolded.

Do not come into this book hoping for lots of lore, as most of it is very base level and mostly vaguely touched upon but the story overall is still a good time if you are wanting/needing a palette cleanser and something a little spooky and adventurous before your next read!

This was a really cute book, I needed something lighter to read after an intense trilogy, this didn't disappoint. I liked the back and forth between Prosper & Alastor. I will be reading the next book when it comes out.

This was a fun little book!! My favorite part is that Alastor kept calling Prosper, "Maggot," which reminded me of Konshu from Moon Knight calling Stephen, "Worm," and so I couldn't help but be endeared to this pair.

Overall it's not terribly spooky, though it is a bit atmospheric, and I would suggest if you have a kid who wants to try horror but might still be a scaredy cat, this is a good place to start!

Highly fun!

ya know.........I wanted to really like this........................but I've been trying to get into it for two weeks now and this is just not gonna work. I loved alexandra bracken's other books, but I just don't think I'm really in the mood for a middle grade book rn so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

(this is v much an "it's not the book, it's me" situation tho so def still check it out if you're interested!!)

series has potential, Alastor is a fun character

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Loved the story and the characters and genuinely found myself smiling at the conversations between Prosper and Alastor. Can’t wait for book 2.
