Definitely fast paced after a medium pace beginning. Definitely not what I expected after reading the introduction on Amazon. Definitely and thoroughly enjoyed it!

Another one not for me. I just couldn't get over the constant hashtags. I sincerely hope that in the future, we've #MovedOn.

I didn’t finish because I didn’t like the writing style. I didn’t want to find out how the characters solved the problem set up in the beginning. It wasn’t very engaging for me.

There’s a lot going on in this book. Just a lot. It was a slog to get through with odd distracting stylistic choices, throwing hashtags and asterisks in all over the place.
The VR game everybody plays was my least favorite part. At one point a giant earth shattering thing happened and the two main protagonists reaction was to make sure they weren’t late for their gaming slot. This struck me as ridiculous and out of character for the Captain Planet super lawyer wannabe protagonist. Everything got more unbelievable from there.

I really wanted to like this book… and the general concept/plot was interesting but I just couldn’t handle the constant text-speak and very early 21st century specific language and references. It felt myself having to suspend disbelief too much to imagine that in a world a century in the future, where supposedly society and completely collapsed (including the internet) and then reformed people would still be saying “feels” and using “friend” as a verb, or making references to Harry Potter and calling Trump “orange Voldemort”. Not to mention the copious #’s and @‘s where they make absolutely no sense.
There was also no real awareness of the underlying systemic issues that are causing climate catastrophe, economic inequality, etc… the world of the novel is one where capitalism still exists and technology become a yoke into which most voluntarily submit but all of the problems of the past are blamed on a few evil/greedy individuals rather than the system that allows/creates them. To be honest I only made it about 80% before giving up so if it somehow this was all just a misdirection and the thesis does a 180 at the end, let me know.
In summary: imagine “Ready Player One” but written by a Liberal (with a capital L) queer white gen-Xer who publicly identifies as a “Slytherin”
Also, they’re locs - not dreads, and definitely not dreadlocks.

I really wanted to enjoy this book, but in the end it just didn't grab me. The setting had all the right ingredients: a post #climatefail future where mankind is still squabbling and unable to pool their resources enough to #bounceback - our main character, Rubi, is having trouble getting face to face with a legal client. The reason might be an emerging AI, or is it?
Climate fiction, a setting where humans seem to have merged their "surface" (real world) and "VR/sensory" (online) worlds, the race for an entity of unknown origin... But the whole thing just never manages to take off and become exciting.

I really enjoyed this, though it is pretty heavy-handed at times. Looking forward to reading the next.
