Marlee has always known she wanted Waylon. But their age gap and his friendship with her brother prevented him from going further, but he agreed if she still wanted him on her 21st birthday that he would give in. we dont get to see much from that day, but we are now years later and Marlee is back in town. Things go quickly with Marlee and Waylon, they pick up where they left off and immediately are going on dates. I would have liked a slower progression but they were able to forgive each other for the past and move in to the present. This was a quick read but it was very low on the spice.

Five Star Read by Alexandra Hale. MMC Waylon and GMC Marlee are a story of love and what sometimes takes time to see. I would highly recommend Back in the country.

This book was nicely written and it nailed the atmosphere of small, Southern, rural American towns, at least those that are so sweet and welcoming in fiction. However, I do think that the blurb is a bit misleading. I would not qualify the story completely as a romance one, because much of the story telling time was spent on exploring the people around the main characters in the small Tennessee feel-good town (clearly gearing for lots of other books in this series).

It read more like slice of life than romance. There was so little angst between the two leads for 90% of the book that I was quasi yawning. What little angst happening in the last 10% felt fabricated and boring. Esp. since all the mini drama mainly happened because the h, Marlee had a too laid back and slow attitude in having real communications and taking firm decisions (and making them known). I was a bit aghast when she went on her high horse like she had no hand at all in the miscommunications

I love the small town romance story and this one was so cute. I love how they were best friends before they even started having feelings for each other and how they care about each other so much. I understood why her brother had to sent her way so she find something other than the small town but I think she truly want to go back home after college and with the events that happened that didn’t happen. I love how she came back home to find her happy place and the boy that always had her heart.

so sweet

Alexandra Hale is a new to me author. Back in the Country is such the sweetest book. Waylon & Marlee are just adorable together. Warning, there is a bit of a third act breakup that I wanted to shake both main characters to just talk to each other. Of course, there is a HEA that melts your heart back together.

Back in the Country is a brother's best friend/childhood friend's romance. I love Marlee she is feisty and the friendships she has with each of Waylon's brothers. Marlee is such a kind soul and wants to be there for all of those she loves even when she doesn't know how, I just love that about her. Waylon is so good for her, his nickname for her is "Baby Girl" and it just makes me melt every time even in Making it Country we had a scene with them and I went "aww I miss them". Marlee and Waylon's chemistry is perfect. Also, the groveling at the end is swoon-worthy.

This was a very light, very sweet, quick read.
Marlee is returning home after college and working for a few years, and is so happy to be back. Not only as it’s always had her heart and is the only place she feels at home, but she will be with her brother and her first love and childhood crush, Waylon.

Waylon was ready to have Marlee back in his life, with regrets of letting her go the first time as he thought it was best for her, he was not making that mistake again and was all in and showed her that. I enjoyed the care, and support they gave one another.

This one low angst, a slight second chance story, brother’s best friend, and finally having the right time to be with the one you have always loved. I will say the ‘conflict’ at the end was a little rushed, and Marlee could have shared some of the ‘blame’ and grovelling-but it was resolved quickly and Waylon was the sweetest!

I did enjoy the writing and the whole Thayer family-they have a wonderful bond and I enjoyed getting to know them and the small town of Clementine Creek. I will continue to read this series as I am very curious about the rest of the sibling, especially oldest brother Hank who is the MMC in book 2!

Oh I loved this so much! Marlee and Waylon were a long time coming! They have known each other since she was 7 years old. He is 7 years older than her and her brother's best friend. These two have loved each other a long time but her overbearing brother wanted her to leave their small Tennessee town for city & college in Nashville. Now she's home and these two can finally see if they can make it work. I loved this story and the characters so much! Such a great, country, small town read!
