It's more a 3.5 but goodreads doesn't allow us to use '.5" haha

I am in love with the Ravenspire series but not so much with this one ... And I cannot tell you what ^^
I didn't click with the story or its characters, you know from the beginning what's going to happen before it does and ... well ... what's the point right ?

I don't know if I have the book to blame or just me, for the last couple of days I wasn't in a big reading mood and it might have clouded my judgment on the story.

I am still in owe with the writing and the world building by C.J Redwine. I am dying to read the fourth book in the series : The Blood Spell and I am hoping for it to blow my mind like book 1 and 2 <3

I liked how this one was a twist on a lesser known fairytale. It was also really cool how this whole book basically expanded on one tiny little reference in the previous story. I really almost cried at the end because I couldn't see how it would get to a happy ending

This is a great book! I loved reading it, although it does have a little bit of violence between characters and one character is abused.

I wasn’t super invested for a good chunk of this, but it developed really well. The relationship between Javan and Sajda felt really genuine and special. I thought the ending was great.

I received this as an eARC through Edelweiss.

Javan is finishing his time training a his academy. He is attacked by a dragon when finishing his graduation test. Javan soon learns that there is a plot to kill him and keep from returning to his father, the king, whom he has not seen in many years. Few know what Javan really looks like and a traitor is able to take his place in line for the crown. By a "lucky" twist of fate, Javan is sent to prison instead of being killed. He is offered a chance to meet up with the king, if he can be victorious in the prison's deadly tournament. With the help of Sadja a prison slave, who is hiding her own identity, Javan has the best chance to take his rightful place.

This novel was well-developed and well written. I have not read any of the others in the series, so perhaps it would have been more impactful if I had read the others. It was difficult for me to get into the story. However, the concept was unique and compelling.
