Another fun action adventure book in the Fargo series. This time Same and Remi Fargo are vacationing in Mexico when a volcano disrupts their leisure time. While they are helping distribute medical supplies and food they discovered a Mayan tomb with a remarkable find, a Mayan codex - the most complete one ever found and one of only five. A rich European heiress will stop at nothing to get it in her quest to become an "archaeologist." The codex outlines Mayan temples and cities that have never been discovered. Who will discover the finds first? Fun, over the top, and pretty unbelievable, but still a good time.

Not a "bad" book, but WAY too predictable. I realize that the audience of Cussler wants predictable and exciting, but it's hard to get through something that creates such an impossible world. The main characters continuously just getting away from situations with their lives, discovering hidden and immense treasures, all mixed with romance. Also, why does Cussler have to intimately describe every weapon used? Do people really care what the bad guy gets shot with?

I am enjoying this series. A nice change from the Dirk Pitt/Kurt Austin characters that first made Clive Cussler one of my favorite authors.

While I never made it past two Clive Cussler books in the past, I tried this one because it was co-authored by Thomas Perry, who I think did a good job with action & procedurals in Th Old Man.

Big disappointment, though. There characters were way too elitist and prescriptive.

I pride myself on my ability to accept any premise, as long as it is internally consistent. Maybe the problem is that I read this without reading the earlier books, but I just couldn't deal with this absolutely perfect couple, who was in the right place at the right time. They are stunningly good looking, incredibly rich (but want to use their money for good, great fighters (and crack shots), knowledgeable in all sorts of obscure areas, and so on.

I decided to go on to something else-- there are too many books out there.
