I would suggest starting with the novella at the end of the book which has all the info that should have been placed at the start of the book so we know what is going on between the two and how all of this got started.

I feel like I read a totally different book than everyone else, because most reviewers gave it 4 and 5 stars, while I struggled to even finish it.

I can forgive a boring plot, but not flat characters. Most of the time I didn't even know whose pov I was in, because the two mcs were the same. The author tried to make it a sexy book, but how could I feel anything if these characters don't even read like actual people?

I also had problems with the writing style, although can't tell you what, because I hadn't noticed any grammatical errors, like it has sure seen a line editor, but something still felt off. Maybe the storytelling itself? Or it was just simply emotionless?

Not gonna lie, I might still give book 2 a chance because that storyline interest me, but if I'll have the same problems, I won't hesitate to dnf.

Two enemies forced to work together, with very different goals, on a mission for the crown. I know, I know I’m late to this series.

Years ago a betrayal led to Scarlett Grey’s family legacy destroyed, the death of her parents, and the magic stripped from her and her twin sister. Now they are barely surviving job to job. Scarlett is an assassin by trade, the most skilled in her field, but her business is being stolen by The Poisoner.

Quinn Adams, runs an apothecary but most of her wealth comes from her underground job, selling poisons. Their rivalry is fierce and passionate, they’ve stolen each other’s clients, sabotaged each other’s business, tried to kill each other and occasionally… slept together.

But when the Queen gives them an impossible mission, with an irresistible reward, can they put the past aside or will it come back to burn everything down.

Scarlett and Quinn’s dynamic is so intense, at times it felt almost too dark but it never went too fair. Their bond is magnetic. The team assembled for the mission are all very different personalities, and they created a really wonderful found family. Striling, Scarlet’s twin, is hilarious and I am already craving more information about her past relationship with Morrigan. Thankfully all the books are already out, so I am going to read that one now.

It was a pleasure reading this book especially the amazing chemistry between Quinn and Scarlett was great

Fan-freaking-tastic! I'm an enemies-to-lovers trope junkie, and Scarlett and Quinn's gambit is marvelous. There is nothing not to like in this fast-paced fantasy adventure. Strong females, assassins, an apothecary with an axe to grind, fight scenes, a unique magic system, and a BIG problem to solve. But oh my, all of this wrapped up in a super spicy, love-me-hate-you dance that constantly treads the razor wire between love and hate, and you have a page-turner of the hottest kind!

The characters are visceral, deep, and secretive. Having both Scarlett and Quinn's voices in this dual POV novel makes it all the juicier. The world of New Imperium and its magic is imaginative and fun and adds layers to the story. The spice is the icing all over this cake, though, and you better like yours HOT ’cause you get nothing less in [b:A Game of Hearts and Heists|68052101|A Game of Hearts and Heists (Girl Games #1)|Ruby Roe|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1671471501l/68052101._SY75_.jpg|100237700].
