I enjoyed this book, but I definitely had a few issues with it. The characters felt surface level and half of the time I couldn’t differentiate between the two POVs. There wasn’t enough contrast with their voice. Also, mainly at the beginning, the sexualization felt objectifying. The world-building was simple and very easy to follow. The ending was a bit rushed, but I liked that there were some twists I didn’t predict.

The premise seemed interesting but I opened the book and realized the writing style wasn’t for me. This may be weird to say but it felt very ‘modern’ for a story set in a fantasy world (one character mentions ordering a cocktail which fine but why not just make up a fantasy drink if we’re in a fantasy setting?). Just my two cents.

Can’t believe I’m about to say this, but I wish this was less focused on the spice and more focused on the plot and the worldbuilding.
