How can the 47th book in a series be just as good as the first? The "In-Death" series is truly amazing and I already can't wait for the next one!
I liked it a lot. Definitely more of a police procedural but most of these are these days. Personally, I really like that but if you are looking for romance, it definitely has a back seat here so be warned.
i wasn’t invested in the investigation as i’m not so keen on investments and profits and such stuff. the murders weren’t as personal. but i as always loved eve and roarke. they had a disagreement in this book and it was interesting to see them in that situation.
“I was going to, but the goddamn Candy Thief found my stash.”
“Only in your world does candy qualify as actual food.”
“You eat it. It tastes good.”
“That was a good scary Roarke,” she commented on the way to the elevator.
“I’ll add, you did a good scary cop as well.” He took her hand, kissed her fingers. “Teamwork.”
“I believe I was still on your murder board as a suspect when we first banged each other.”
“Technically,” she allowed. “But I didn’t figure you for it. If I’d been wrong, I’d have taken you down, slick. Maybe I’d have banged you one last time first, but I’d’ve taken you down.”
“Darling, that’s so sweet—and oddly arousing.”
“Nearly on time,” he said in that snooty voice, “and together.” His brows arched up. “And with no visible injuries.”
“The day’s young.” Eve pulled off her coat, tossed it over the newel post as the cat padded over to wind through her legs. “You’re not.”
“It was black—but he has a black one, too, I guess. It’s confusing. But it had an R—for Roarke—instead of the spider deal. And you’re swinging over the damn city and climbing up buildings, and there was a big gust of wind. It scared the shit out of me. Don’t do that again.”
“I’ll resist. Though you do have the most fascinating dreams.”
“Roarke studied the ID shot, sipped more coffee. Said, “Hmm.”
“What?” Instantly, she swung around, eyes narrowed and focused. “What kind of hmm was that? That was a, you know, some kind of hmm.”
“Obviously, I’ll need to guard my hmms in the future.”
The In Death series has always been my favorite by J.D. Robb. It just keeps getting better. And maybe next time we will find out who's stealing the candy.
Another great read in the In Death series by JD Robb. Because this series has been running for so long I do not recommend jumping in with this book. There are too many secondary characters and long running story-lines that would be a little confusing. As a long time reader this had a lot of the things I adore; the wit and banter of Eve Dallas, the hilarious side -kickness of Peabody (especially after she takes an upper to stay away), the strength and the smarts of Roarke, and the team that works together to solve a needless death. An edge of your seat mystery that Eve and her team are able to conquer one clue at a time. Great read!
The past few books in the In Death series haven't been all that memorable for me, and even though I've given them all four stars (the loyal fangirl in me can never rate these books any lower), I admit some of them have been in the low four star level.
Leverage in Death happened to be one I really enjoyed. I thought the case was interesting and I loved the interactions between the main characters—Eve and Peabody, Eve and Bella, and most especially Eve and Roarke.
As a big fan of the couple, I sometimes wish they would experience a bit of conflict in their relationship like in the earlier books because I know they would both get emotionally intense, which I really love. This book had a little bit of that and I appreciated it so much.
This 47th book probably won't be one I'd be dying to re-read but just may remember fondly that moment between Eve and Roarke. ♥♥♥
