I have been Buddy-Reading this series over the last couple of months with a ‘book-club’ friend who had not read Raymond E. Feist’s work before. As I have been a long-time fan of his work, I have compared it to The Lord of the Rings books but have actually enjoyed this series more. When I mentioned this to my friend, she immediately wanted to read the series, and convinced me to read them with her- not that it was a big ask 😊.
It is an epic fantasy saga- with wonderful world building and scene setting, and dynamic, vivid and detailed descriptions that will transport you right into the story.
Take some time to explore Mr. Feist’s work, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed- and the best part is that all the books are available now to read- no waiting for books to be released! #WINNING

Had heard it was good but was sadly disappointed. One thing about GOT was the characters had there own sayings and a deep sense of history. It felt like another world. This book felt like it was told by a bloke down the street. It didn't feel like another world at all. Just the same world with a flimsy veil over it. It was just ok to kill time. May continue on it I can't find something better at some point.

DNF. Seriously, such a boring book. One of the main drivers in the first 1/3 is an off-screen rape, which I find to be such lazy writing. “How shall I add some tension to this scene and force my character to move forward? I know, the main character’s friend will get raped!” This should not be used as a driving force for plot.
Other then that, the writing style was very dry, just basically laying out events one at a time. If you’re into this world, by all means, continue. I just can’t do it.

I really enjoyed this, especially the beginning. I was very much hooked almost all the way through. The characters were interesting and likeable (especially Roo and Sho Pi) and I really wanted to know what happened next. I look forward to reading the further 3 in the series, and learning more about this. It was great picking up another Raymond E. Feist book. I enjoy his stories.

Feist has done it again, another brilliant book centred around calis son of tomas and erik von darkmoor. Really interesting story of infiltration and stealth with plenty of action and some funny moments aswell. Also for me my favourite character pug is back and it made me smile.

Slightly slower than the other books but still an epic story in this saga

I'm currently re-reading all of the Feist books and so far, it's awesome! I didn't remember much from this book (I only read it once ten years ago) so everything was like I read it for the first time.
Maybe it's a bit controversial, but I'm starting to prefer Feist over GRRM. Feist didn't make the mistake of trying to describe everything in one generation. You get the feeling that every book is just a small glimpse in a world in which a lot of going on, and every book offers a fresh perspective.
On the other hand, Pug's sudden appearances at the end of every book do have a bit of a 'deus ex machina' quality, and I'm still not really fond of the entire religion bashing thing. However, I used to think that Feist's books were a bit shallow or superficial and now I don't know anymore why I held that opinion. Each new character / book explores another part of the human condition and he gets quite introspective at times.
On to the next book!

Very much enjoyed Shadow of a Dark Queen as it's a combination of two of my favorite genres - high fantasy and military fiction. More the former than the latter, but the characters spend plenty of time in military situations. Good start to the Serpentwars series.
