This was my favorite book in this series. There was so much going on that there was never a dull moment. There was a crazy ex-wife, a jealous friend, 2 cute kids, and two large and invasive families. There was romance and heartbreak and suspense. It was truly the complete package found in a book.

Cam Montgomery was a grumpy, alpha, single dad who hid his soft heart. He’d been burned by his ex and was still dealing with the fallout of her behavior. He lived his life for his kids and had his world rocked when the sweet but sassy Paige Carpino entered the picture. The first few times he ran into Paige, Cam did not make the best impression. But as he let his walls down, Paige fell hard for the single dad who lived next door to her sister.

Both Cam and Paige had people in their lives who caused problems. And they had a lot of hurdles to get over. They both loved Cam’s kids and the relationship between Jordy and Cara and Paige strengthened Cam’s love for Paige. As perfectly as they fit together, this was the first book in this series that included a third act breakup, and it was heartbreaking. Even through their breakup they never stopped loving each other and I really liked the way they took time apart to figure out if they could find a compromise.

The suspense in the book was woven throughout the plot. I loved the addition of the third perspective and the anticipation of when everything would finally come out.

This was a book I couldn’t put down. I loved all the new characters introduced as well as some characters from the other books getting some more background. Paige and Cam’s journey to a HEA was not easy, but it was worth the wait.

So this was a really fun read. There was a lot of banter between Cam and Paige and I absolutely loved Cam. Sometimes I just want one of those alpha, take charge hero’s and he was definitely that and more. Plus I love angst in my stories and you get that here in spades.

I do wish we witnessed more of the friendship between Paige and Brian. I felt like we only saw the version of him interested in her that she kept pushing away, so it made it difficult to understand why she was pushing and fighting to keep him as a friend.

Overall a fun, angsty and steamy romance!

Don’t get me wrong. I like a possessive, unhinged man in a dark romance when that’s the story like. But when it’s a normal romance and the man is so controlling and toxic I find it hard! It was well written, good story line. But Cam was so unbelievably controlling and Paige was such a pushover at 26 years old. It drove me crazy. I pushed to the end but Cam needs to sort himself out.
He says that her family treats her like a baby but omg he does the same!! His decision is the only one that matters.. Paige tries to say her opinion and he shuts it down with “this conversation is over” …. she literally gets told what to do by him all the time. Like I said. In a dark romance I’m all for the unhinged, toxic man but not in a normal romance book when it’s meant to be ‘real life’.

Real spicy, real crazy. The emotions and twists and turns of this boon had me smiling, laughing, almost in tears, all over the place. Loved this more than I expected to!

I wanted to DNF, but it had such great reviews that I thought something must happen later that redeems it. No such thing happened. First of all, the way Paige talked about her incredible tits in the first chapter was ridiculous. Second of all, Cam is v controlling & doesn’t listen to a single wish of Paige’s & blatantly overrides her. The woman just wanted to go to the store to buy some purée pumpkin for cookies & he pinned her to the bed so she couldn’t leave. Later in the book he shuts her out of important decision making & refuses to let her be involved in a case w the police that directly effects her. I couldn’t stand Cam. Not a single person in the book understands boundaries & I was ready to pull my hair out.

Onto the writing, my biggest pet peeve was that the author turned “sweet” into a noun & wrote the must comfortable sounding sentences. GROSS. Then, she was extremely repetitive with some of her phrases.
Some of my favorites pertained to hot dads, bottomless vodka drinks, & sprouting seeds

I have binge-read this series by Brynne Asher this past week. Athica Lane is the third book in this series, and I think it may be my favorite!

Cam is working hard- he has two young children, a crazy ex-wife, and two full-time jobs. He is doing all he can to support his family, and needs a little help. That comes from his next-door neighbor, who watches his kids. When she goes away, Paige steps in to help. This is not intentional, and is after she and Cam meet over a Dr. Pepper.

The chemistry is off the charts with these two! Cam is stubborn, and Paige is a little sweet and sassy, but so loving. I think what I loved the most about this book was how Paige interacted with Jordy and Cara. You can tell so much about a person by how they handle young kids, and Paige proves to be a loving and caring addition to their lives.

I am so glad that someone on social media recommended Brynne Asher as a similar writer to Kristen Proby. I found a new author, and another crazy, extended Italian family to love!
