The only complaint I have about the Sookie Stackhouse novels is that they are so good that I read them in a day and then have to wait another year for the next one to come out. Thank goodness I have True Blood to hold me over during the summer. I enjoyed this addition to the series and I liked getting to learn more about the fae and the origin of Sookie's gift. I regretted not seeing more of Jason in this one, but I'm glad that Remy and Hunter showed up. I really mourned for Pam in this one, as I'd really like her and wanted to see her happy. I kept hoping for an unsanctioned change for Miriam. Can't wait for the next book!

It's impossible not to like a Sookie. This wasn't my favorite by any stretch ([b:Dead to the World|140077|Dead to the World (Sookie Stackhouse, #4)|Charlaine Harris|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1255593750s/140077.jpg|1808005]!!!!!!), but it was good. There were several moments that made me laugh out loud, and I was glad that one plot line in particular was finally cleared up. Sookie has a lot of soul-searching to do as she learns about her history, worries about her relationship with Eric, and stresses about the plot(s?) to kill her/him/them all. Don't worry, she relaxes by watching Jeopardy! (cute).Bubba was back in the action (although she actually used the "E" word, I couldn't believe it!), and what action it was. Yikes. Also, I loved Pam in this one. I wish she got more "on screen" time.

In terms of the boys, I was shocked when Bill didn't make an appearance until halfway though the book (and then it was a brief one). Alcide turns up again, making it more apparent that pack leadership has really squashed the rough but charming guy of [b:Club Dead|140082|Club Dead (Sookie Stackhouse, #3)|Charlaine Harris|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1204574020s/140082.jpg|602144]. And there was not nearly enough Eric, but then there never is!

I'm not really sure how I feel about two of the big plot elements. I will avoid spoilers but say that one has to do with the Eric/Sookie relationship and one has to do with Sookie's gift. I feel iffy about the way things stand and a fact that was revealed, especially because I'm worried about where the next (last!) two books are going. Seriously, while a few things are clearing up, many others seem more convoluted-I don't know how she's going to wrap it all up. I hope she does! It looks like the love triangle might be making a comeback, which is never good for an Eric shipper.

But on a similar topic, any Sookie installment that includes the line "Eric liked monkey sex" is okay in my book!

Sigh. I really really wanted to like this. And I did, somewhat, but not to the extent I was hoping. It was a lot of wrapping things up, but quickly done with little to hold it all together. Most of it seemed like a bunch of random things just smooshed together with no real purpose - "people like Alcide, let's bring him back (for like 2 pages)", "Oh, I forgot about so-and-so, lets wrap her up now". Avoiding spoilers, one of the most important plot developments came from nowhere, and Sookie herself admits she should have put more thought into it. Overall, it didn't really seem to go anywhere, just a stepping stone to get to the final book. Hopefully the next one will be better.

Same as the last one pretty much: scattered stories, random people from the past popping up for seemingly no reason, etc. (The Alcide 'pop up' is a huge WTF in particular.) And she's finally made Eric *completely* boring. *sad sigh*

Honestly, I think part of the problem is that the series needs a big ole road trip. It's been centered in Bon Temps for too many books in a row now - some of the best books in this series have been the ones where a good chunk of the action has taken place elsewhere.

It was okay.. I just want to finish the series. One or two left.

Very in the middle on this one. A few interesting things that I'm anxious to see play out in the final books. But this is certainly not a favorite book in the series.

This was a very typical Sookie book, but it didn't have as cohesive a plot as the first books did, in my opinion. I think in my mind this will get lost because it wasn't about just one event or plot line. In fact, to me this one almost seemed like a build up book for something that is coming next. As the set up without the actual event is kind of boring, I wish there had been a way to combine this book with the one that will follow it. I am hopeful that the one coming next will actually resolve all that was started in this one.

I was a little disappointed in this one. I felt like the plot was a bit all over the place and I didn't feel like the ending was really an ending...it just ended. I love the Sookie books and I look forward to where they are going but this one was a little bit of a miss to me.

I'm now 2 books away from the end of the series and since the show veered wildly off course, I'm wondering how this is going to end. As the books have progressed Sookie has gotten stronger, despite always being in situations that require her to "be rescued". While she still waffles about things, she's has shown she can put her foot down and make the hard decisions. A couple of threats to her were wrapped up in this book, but her love life is still a soap opera. Ready to see how all this is finished.

This one had a little uptake in suspense for me with some new angles and new foes to encounter, enjoyed it for what it was
