The final chapter of Hayes' and Laiken's story starts with heartbreak and devastation. Two pages in and Kelsey is already pulling at the heartstrings.
We essentially pick up where the second book finished and boy was that a gut-wrenching cliff-hanger! Now there has been some considerable time that’s passed and poor Hayes is really struggling. He is angry. Kelsey captures this incredibly well and you can't help but feel sorry for Hayes. You feel his hurt, you feel his anger, his pain.
I really want to hate Laiken right now for everything Hayes has gone through without her. I don't feel sorry for her. On the surface, She has her dream job and has no clue what is going on in Hayes' life.
This third chapter, I felt, really focused on Hayes and what we was going through. We really got to understand him and what he felt and it was all valid. He didn’t understand why she left, only that she did.
It's not until something serious happens that Laiken returns and is met with a lot of hostility, and rightly so. You can feel the tension and the pain when she comes back because they don’t know if she is going to stay.
You can feel how torn Hayes is about having her back and what he should do. You feel as if you're a part of it and you're dealing with everything right alongside them. The depth of emotion and angst has your heart clench everything you turn the page.
This was a young couple in love, who had their world rocked. You would not fault Hayes for the way he felt. You felt as strongly as he did. As the story progressed, some of those hurt feelings thawed and they all came together to try work out who was behind it everything and tearing their lives apart.
We get to the point where all the pieces of the puzzle fall into place and you are on the edge of your seat wondering what is going to happen next.
While their story is over, I really do hope we get to Hayes, Laiken, Cam and Mali really soon!
Another great read by Kelsey Clayton! Thank you

Truly did not think it would get worse after the second book. But then it became unbearable, so good job with that, I guess. I think this series could have been *decent* had this author not tried to dip her toes into any genre/trope she could. Were Hayes and Laiken cringey in the first book? Yeah, but the romance was at least entertaining. By the end of the third I was just rooting for them all to die.
4.5/5 Stars
When I started this series I just thought it was going to be a brother's best friend, slightly sporty, new adult romance. And now that I've finished the trilogy I don't know how I ended up her from there. And I'm not saying that in a bad way, I mean it just had the best plot twists that I DID NOT see coming. I thought that A Shot of Pretty Poison was the best book out of the trilogy, with book one, A Dose of Pretty Poison, being close behind and honestly I didn't really care for book two, A Drop of Pretty Poison. Now that I've seen how the series ended and what Kelsey Clayton was setting up, I do think book two is better than I initially thought but I'm not convinced this couldn't be a duology instead of a trilogy.
I feel like there isn't much more I can say about this story without some MAJOR spoilers, and I don't want to ruin this for you. I will say that despite all the ups and downs of Laiken and Hayes' relationship by the end of the book they get their HEA together. While both characters made their mistakes throughout the series, the entire time I was rooting for them to have the HEA they both deserved.
