I can appreciate the story for what it is but Angela was sooo unlikeable to me.
* Thank you to St. Martin's Press for sending me this book to read and review *
This book is a slow burning mystery. It is told solely through one perspective - by an unreliable, and in my opinion, unlikable character. Though there isn't any shock factor moments, the story-telling kept me turning pages.
The story is of Angela and her relationship with H.P. It is told by Angela as she sits in an interrogation room a suspect in the disappearance of H.P.'s wife. The narrative Angela weaves is filled with betrayal and jealously. I found myself frustrated with Angela - as she felt herself too good for certain situation. She came off as too entitled and but did not put in effort to warrant it.
Pick this book up if you want to question everything presented to you, and want to wait to the very end to learn exactly what happens.

Our Little Secret by Roz Nay is a story about first loves. HP and Angela met in high school and became best friends. The summer after high school graduation, they started dating and spent all their time together. When summer comes to an end, Angela leaves for college in England while HP stays behind in Vermont.
Present day, Angela is in the police station being questioned about the disappearance of Saskia- HP's wife. Angela denies any involvement in Saskia's disappearance and tells the detective if he wants to hear her story, she'll have to start at the beginning.
This book was a fast, easy read with a unique story line. This was one of those books that you can't stop reading, but at the same time you don't want the book to end.
Here's my favorite excerpts.
His parents rarely shut the door and never locked it. "If anything's coming for us," HP's dad used to say, "it'll come just as good through a window."
"Why didn't you guys move?"
"Because pain isn't in houses." He swallowed hard. "And when something like that happens, it ties you to the house. It's like a scar you grow into. I can't explain it."
"For what? To 'find ourselves'? Like I said, Little John, I'll be me wherever I go."
I learned, right there in the grass, that what you see each day is entirely your own invention. I found out that night that I could alter what's in front of me- I could literally write the sky.
He was a rarity, a resilient light, and with a world full of choices surrounding him, he continued to choose me.

I just finished Our Little Secret by Roz Nay and I loved it. Fast paced, easy read. Great story told mostly in flashbacks by the main character, Angela. You will feel for the main character Angela and HP. You will want to see their lives together happen. However, things just aren't so. I do wish we knew more about the ending. We know what happened but not exactly.... I would definitely read another if this was being made in to another book. I am curious to read anything else by this author. Overall, highly recommend!

I got this advance readers’ edition thanks to the publisher early. The plot was terrible, the characters flat, and not a compelling, page turning story at all - more of a struggle to stay in it. Skip this one....
I typically do not ever read books of this genre. Not necessarily because I’m not interested, I just have zero patience to find out an ending and always skip to the end to figure it out. But this was a book club choice so I had to read and I made sure to read it from the beginning to the end without peaking!
This book had me interested from the very beginning. I found this book to be very relatable (obviously on a much less extreme scale). This book did a great job at capturing what it’s like to fall in love for the very first time especially in high school and how crazy it can make you, especially when the romance ends and you’re stuck seeing your partner move on before you’re ready!
Although I wish this book had a much happier ending, I’m very glad I read it. The thrill of following along the tragedy of Angela’s life and mental illness kept me on my toes for many hours. The book was predictable in the sense that I could tell what the ending was going to be - but I was very much able to be caught up in Angela’s point of view and surprised at the end when it all came together!

In a month of, so far, cosy Christmas reads, Our Little Secret was just the psychological thriller that I needed.
We meet Angela in a police interrogation room, being questioned about the disappearance of someone called Saskia. The story of who Saskia is and what has really happened to her unfolds through Angela giving her statement to the police.
This one is a slow burn, but one that I was hooked by instantly and I found myself completely unable to work out how the story was going to end, which I loved! And oh wow that ending gave me actual goosebumps......

I love a good unreliable narrator. Quick, engaging read from the start. I wish it had ended a little differently, but still really enjoyed this!
