I like Ann Patchetts writing. The stories are entertaining and the pace of them flow nicely. I think this was a good book. I’m not sure it was amazing book. It definitely makes you think about privilege (wealth + white). It’s a bit depressing if not realistic to think about the fact that a white couple with money and support can take in/adopt children of a black woman who doesn’t have support or money. I think this book was a novel addressing those themes, however, i don’t think she drew those emotions out enough. I’d give this book a 3.75
I love how Ann captivates the reader with the ripple effects of a single event on each of the individual characters. She has great character development and how they begin to link together.
So, Ellen has corrected me. She did not recommend this book to me, she merely loaned it to me for a quick read. She did not like it and neither did I. I was surprised I didn't like it though because I really liked Bel Canto. I enjoy Patchett's writing style, but this book just didn't click for me. The story was pretty disjointed and didn't make any sense. However, there were some pretty good nuggets of writing. I think Patchett should have just taken a couple of chapters and published as a short story, and thrown the rest in the garbage.
The audiobook version of this book read like a play. Unlike other Patchett books I’ve loved, I enjoyed it all the same.
Now to look up the original Hippocratic oath, as teased in this story.

I'm surprised by how much I liked this book despite the obvious political sides the author takes. I think the story overpowered the author's leanings, and I find that much more attractive in prose writing than when the author's agenda overpowers the story/characters.
Interesting premise, and an engaging read. The ending seemed a little pat, Given that 90% of the book happened over a 24 hour period, I expected a little more in the summing up.
Thank you to Tandem Collective for gifting me with a copy of this book.
It's taken me a minute to gather my thoughts about this book. Run is definately not something I would go ahead and pick up myself in a bookstore.
Run deals with adoption, grief, race, politics, religion and many other things. Following Tip and Teddy and their adoption father Doyle through 24 hours of their life in which an accident on an icy road with a car turns their world on its head.
I think this book was so cleverly done and I can't believe how much happened in the space of 24 hours. I'm also shocked at how ridiculously unlucky but also lucky some of these characters were. I saw some of the twists coming but others I didn't.
My first Ann Patchett novel and I think I'll definately pick up more from her in the future. 4 stars from me

It was just okay. The story line was a little choppy, but it was interesting.
Another successful Ann Patchett novel. I really enjoyed the theme of this book and as always, I’m amazed at how beautifully her stories unfold!
