Rose is not the murderer as us Vampire Academy readers all knew (Tasha's betrayal was not expected). Her escape was written vividly and the journey that ensued was emotional and life changing. I am happy Rose grew up and continued to put others before herself. Rose is a strong female character and I enjoyed not seeing her give up even though many obstacles were thrown in her path. I loved the plot twists and was cheering when Lissa was crowned queen. I wanted to whoop and cry when Dimitri and Rose finally had their long awaited love story rekindled. I am disappointed Adrian did not receive a happy ending, but am hoping he will in the spin off series. I am very sad Rose and Dimitri's story will not go on, but at least the readers were given their idealistic ending.

Oh this book... this SERIES.
I miss them... now that it's over. I thought I'd be over it, but it's been 10+ days and I still miss them.
This book and the ending was somewhat predictable, but I still enjoyed the ride.

The Adrian mess. I felt like he grew SO MUCH, and then she went and cheated on him and he is tossed aside. I mean... Mead could have figured out a way to get rid of their relationship without cheating, come on!So here we have it. Last in the series. Time to say good-bye to the world of Moroi, Dhampirs and everything that comes along with it (Unless you read Richelle Mead's 'Bloodlines' series that is)
I will tell you that - depsite absolutely loving Frostbite, and being completley captivated by Shadow-Kissed - this was my favourite book of the series. I have loved the character and relationship developments throughout all the books but to have all these much loved character come into their own and, in most cases, get their happy ending is just the most satisfying thing that can happen when reading a book series.
There was barely a moment in the book that wasn't fueled with emotion and action. With being on the run, to the Brother Dashkov, to restoring Sonya, to the sercret Dragomir, to everything else that was happening - you find it difficult to catch your breath. Although the action scenes were exciting and amazing, my favourite parts were the quiet, emotional ones. With Rose and Dimitri in the library 'travelling the world together', the moment in the alleyway after killing Donovan. Sonya and Mikhail's reunion. They are what makes this series for me. The different relationships - and even though their world is so stressful and crazy, they are still just people trying to deal with life. On a much higher scale than the rest of us yes, but it's still the same. Kind of.
I was concerned that because Rose left the Court at the beginning of the book that we wouldn't see much of Lissa, but the bond was there. There was a pretty even share of Rose and Lissa in this book. I enjoyed seeing her peice together the clues of who really murdered Tatiana, and enduring the tasks (and passing with flying colours) I just hope that she doesn't 'get rid of' Jill, like Viktor said she should. I hope she enbraces her new sibling and tries to get to know her.
The relatability of Rose throughout the series has also been spot on. She is strong and brave and maybe a bit young (at the start) but watching her grow and mature and eveolve through a very, VERY traumatic year was incredible. Those who don't full relate to her wish to be like her. Who doesn't want to be a strong, sarcastic 18-year-old girl who can essentially beat up anyone she wants? I do!
Dimitri. What can I say. There is always one that everyone falls for. What a character. So hard and stoic but, at moments, so gentle and loving. I liked his progression through denying their realationship on the teacher/student basis. To kind of accepting the feelings but still not allowing it to progress. To falling fully in love. When he was changed - JUST when he and Rose had decided that they could make their situation work. It would be difficult but they had a plan. I was heartbroken. For both Rose and Dimitri. I was told to have faith by a friend who has already read the books but I couldn't see a way out. He was Strigoi. That was it. But of course, that was not the case. Spirit saved the day. It was frustrating when he refused to see Rose, and more so that Rose couldn't see he was doing it out of shame rather than lack of love. Enter Adrian. Normally when there is a 3rd character that comes between a pairing I am 100% rooting for I take and instant dislike to them. But I couldn't with Adrian. Him and his 'Little Dhampir's sealed it. Though he wasn't my favourite character, I really liked his development the most. Going from the reckless royal he was in Frostbite, to the loyal friend to Lissa, to falling head-over-heels for Rose and doing absolutely anything for her (even funding a round the world trip to go and find her newly-Strigoi ex-boyfriend. What a guy.) When he admitted at the end of Last Sacrafice that he was an addict that was bound to go insane that was it. He would be fine. He has finally admitted his fears to himself and now he can work through them - at least that is what I chose to believe because I want nothing more that for him to be okay at the end of all of this.
So there we have it. Lissa is Queen. Rose and Dimitri and happy. Rose has almost-normal parents by her side. She can now live the life that was meant for her. To protect Lissa, her best friend. The Moroi Queen.

Not quite the ending I had hoped for. For starters, the half-sibling mystery was extremely predictable. Of all the options Richelle had for Lissa's secret half-sibling, Jill was a pretty mundane choice. It really made prolonging this mystery for half the book rather pointless since virtually everyone knew it was her. The strigoi that turned Dimitri would have been a better choice. There was some definite hints in Blood Promise and Spirit Bound that he was harboring a secret and they were all more subtle compared to all the obvious hints she dropped about Jill. Richelle really wasted a golden opportunity with Nathan. A strigoi that holds a grudge against the Dragomir family would have been a far more interesting choice than a 15-year-old whom Lissa thinks has a crush on Christian.
My other issue is how unbelievably selfish Rose becomes. I was a Rose and Dimitri shipper until this book. It was obvious from the start that Dimitri was the one Rose was going to choose, but I thought cheating on Adrian was one line she wouldn't cross. Her attempts to justify cheating on Adrian by bringing up his vices and his refusal to straighten up his act for himself caused Rose to lose a lot of points in my book. For a girl that kept demanding Adrian act more grown up she certainly handles her "relationship" with Adrian quite immaturely.
The only things that are preventing me from rating Last Sacrifice a "2" is the conclusion to the mystery of Tatiana's murder and the fact that Adrian didn't die. I expected the killer to be Daniella since, like with Jill, Richelle was practically painting a giant neon arrow in Daniella's direction. So the Tasha twist was the one thing that I enjoyed.
But overall, I found this to be a very unsatisfying ending to Rose's story. I really hope Adrian and all the friends Rose used to get everything she wanted get their happy endings in the spin-off series. They all deserved better .

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING !!! I am so glad that Dimitri and rose ended together in the end, I really thought that dimitri wasn’t going to open up.
The scene in the alleyway, where he says her hair is beautiful, MELTS MY HEART.
I feel so bad for Adrian though! I understand his anger, but I also see that rose and him were not right for each other.
For some reason I was scared rose was going to die at the end of the book, because of the name ‘the last sacrifice’. So when there was the big reveal of who the murderer is, and rose saved lissa I was like THIS IS IT.
THANK GOD SHE DIDNT DIE. I love happy endings, the only sad bit is how open ended it is, with what happens to eddie, Sydney and Jill. But I guess that is so Mead could write the next series bloodline!
I’m honestly not sure if I’ll read bloodline, because I haven’t bonded with Jill as much as I have Rose. Rose is one of my all time favourite protagonists, it’s great because she isn’t always in the right, but I love that even if she is flawed, she is very passionate and resilient anyways.
Overall, I loved this series and bonded with the characters immensely. I’ll miss reading this!!
