I might have liked this “kids” book a little too much. It was fun and light. It was also basically a Cross book. Patterson always includes the family in the Alex Cross novels and this was no different. Ali was a pretty good lead. It was a nice little change of pace, even if it was familiar. The mystery was simple and straight forward and that was just fine. I’ll read the next one, which knowing Patterson, is sure to come out sooner than later.

This is one of Patterson's better books in recent years.
He still writes romantic scenes badly, and the Cross children are all mega stars and too good to be true but apart from those this was actually engaging and it could be a decent series.
I have to say I did pick that this was going to happen and was waiting for this series to appear.
I hope though that as it progresses he. does age and not stay the same age forever as other series are prone to do.

Irresistible page turner with some character development--mainly learning to keep his cool and his mouth shut.

Ali's friend Gabe, a quiet geek, has disappeared. Ali uses the skills he's observed as the son of former DC detective Alex Cross to pursue clues. Ali was the last to see Gabe--was he taken, or did he runaway? Is he still alive? A string of neighborhood burglaries ups the ante--is Gabe involved somehow? Meanwhile, Alex Cross is on trial for an incident involving an altercation involving injury to a suspect's father--will he be cleared? The media and one of Ali's classmates are crying "dirty cop".

The answer to the general mystery becomes clear fairly early, but the method of figuring out where Gabe could be, and trying to contact him, add complexity and tech interest.

Inside view of a cops's life is unusual for kidlit. (For example. when the house is burgled, the biggest deal a was the loss of Alex and Bree's service weapons.) The warm relationship and advice between Alex and Ali is a big part of the story.

Ali (son of Alex Cross) said goodbye to his friend when school ended and knows he will meet up online with Gabe later to game. But that doesn’t happen because Gabe Qualls just disappears and Ali wants to find his friend.

Hi dad, Alex, and step mom, Bree have done all they can to assist but Ali is not convinced anyone is looking hard enough to find his friend. So Ali who appears to have his father’s instincts, sets off looking for his friend Gabe.

This Middle Grade story gets more complicated and interesting by the minute as Ali looks into the disappearance of Gabe and follows every lead, recruiting his own team to find Gabe.

Read this for my students. Engaging book for 11-13 year olds. Short chapters keep the pace moving. Male protagonist who loves to play PlayStation and does his own detective work to search for his missing friend. Will be recommending to my middle schoolers.
