Wow, this author took some really old, and kind of creepy photos and wrote a story for them that dazzles the imagination. We journey to a world of secrets, time travel, magic and thrilling mysteries. A young boy is driven to find what killed his grandfather and caused everyone to think him crazy. He travels to Wales where truths both tragic and wonderful become known.
A wonderful read, I totally lost myself in this story. Simply amazing.

The story is very creative and the book reads easily - to the point where you can imagine the scenery as if it was written for the screen. As for the quality of the writing I would say it's on par with Stephen King. Easy to understand, if not the best writing out there. You can tackle it in a couple sessions - definitely worth the read.

What a peculiar book! :-) What originally intrigued me about this book was the cover and all of the photographs in the book. Also the book trailer is fabulous! If you haven't seen it, go watch it. I'm glad that I have finally finished this because it had been in my TBR pile for a while.

I bought this in ebook format but ended up listening to it on audio which I'm glad I ended up listening too. I liked the narrator. Even with the photos that are a must see, I think this book is meant to be read aloud.

This is a very unique story and one that I haven't ever really heard of before. The writing style makes the story flow and really develop the story. I liked the mystery behind the story. Jacob was a great male main character because he is smart and crafty. I liked the relationship he had with his grandfather even though I think that really upset his father a lot. Kind of creepy with the whole grandpa, Jacob and Emma relationship.

Parts of the story were predictable but I was surprised with some of the outcomes.

I thought this was going to be a stand alone novel but I think it could go either way with the way the story ended.

I read online that they are thinking about turning this into a movie with Tim Burton directing it which will be perfect!

"I used to dream about escaping my ordinary life, but my life was never ordinary. I had simply failed to notice how extraordinary it was."

I'm not so sure about this rating
3/4 stars

This book is pretty cool. Jacob is an ordinary teenager and then something terrible happens and he discovers a whole new world. It is also very creative, because of all the pictures in it. The ending was very WOW, if you know what I mean. I liked it.

I'll probably write another review later because this one is so not cool.

It feels like I’m rating this book for the photos and not the story itself, but it wasn’t actually that bad.

The main character was as unrelatable as it could be, action began somewhere around 50 pages till the end of the book and that one, everlasting day seems like a horror to me, but.. It wasn’t completely awful. I even dare to say it was amusing. From time to time.

I’m not into phantasy in general and I had sincerely hoped that this book might change my animosity towards this genre. Well it failed to accomplish that, but maybe it was just a wrong pick.

All in all, I can’t see myself recommending this book to anyone, but I won’t lambaste it either.

3.5 It would honestly lose me at times. I don't know if it was because for the majority of the time I was listening to the audiobook, but I felt like it was missing something... I hope the next books are better. I enjoy the concept and some of the peculiar characters though.
