This series has become one of my absolute favorites. It has a few of my favorite elements packed into one book: romance, love triangles, fantasy and adventure. Stories about Faries don't pop up a lot in the book world very often , so I was interested to see what Aprilyn Pike would do with the Genre. This version has the fairies as plants, which makes total sense if you think about Fairies' love for nature.

I recently re-read this book it has been almost 10 years since I first read it. I was obsessed with this book then and I am now! April Lynne Pike took the idea of a faerie and created something new and unique and to this day I have yet to read something quite it. When I finished reading this for the second time I took a chance by looking at the reviews here on Goodreads. I wanted to see how people were taking the book now with this new surge in reading with COVID. The reviews to say the least were disappointing. Yes, there were some aspects of the book that did not age well. However, the extraordinary imagination it took to come up with a faerie book that didn't follow the same path as others is something else.
Laurel, the main character, is a ordinary girl that moves to a big city after being homeschooled in her families cabin for most of her life. She should be worried about puberty, starting a new highschool and making friends. For Laurel, this is not the case. She wakes up one morning with a bump on her back thrusting her into a world she never could have dreamed of. With the help of her new friend David she is able to figure out what she is. Then there is Tamani the handsome man in the woods who makes her feel at home. Laurel, Tamani, and David have to discover why a man wants Laurels family cabin so badly and how to refute him.
The writing for this book is easy to read. The descriptions are not overly complicated and it is easy to sink into the book. Laurel as a character is exactly how you would expect a teenager to be. There are times when she is annoying and other times where it's easy to wish to live her life. The plot itself is good. I personally don't think that the story was to fast and I got relevant information when it was necessary. The innovation of the background of faeries and the stories the author weaved into the book both made sense and were individual in a suprising way.
5 out of 5!

Meh.
I've never had much luck with faerie books. I still think [b:Lament |3112850|Lament The Faerie Queen's Deception|Maggie Stiefvater|http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41R67UplhtL._SL75_.jpg|3144132] is the best one I've read so far.
If you're just looking for romance, this is the book for you.
If you're looking for action and adventure, and maybe a little substance to your story, I've got lots of other great suggestions.
Recommended for younger YA readers (there is a *mention* of S-E-X, but none actual).

The book is so interesting a great new read!!!!!!! I know where my loyalty lies in the romance part of this book....it's totally Tam! I love this character to bits and my hopes for the sequels should be clear! Tam all the way <3
Okay, this book is fine but not fine enough for me to give 4 star.
Before I talk any further-I mean write, I'm sorry for any grammar errors cause I'm not English or American.
I like the concept about the fairy thing, flower wings, and Aprilynne Pike makes it fun to learn biology. It's quite light to read after you adapt to third-person-POV. I know, cause I was annoyed too when I was reading the first 3 chapters, but eventually I managed to enjoy "Wings" after Laurel met Tamani. Enjoyable is one of my criteria to put a book in my favorites-shelf.
At first I love David's character, kind and calm and good at biology but doesn't look like a nerd. However, Tamani's braveness and straightforwardness impressed me a bit. Gradually I start to like Tam's personality too.
Even though I like this novel, there are some things that annoyed me in "Wings".
How come Laurel kisses Tamani after she kisses David before? Because of memories start to return to her brain? Maybe. Just because David is not there? And other because(s) that pop out in my mind. Too long to write and express them.
So, through her actions, I think she's very changeable (rude word: cheap)
Let's move to the other negative opinion. When Laurel's checked by the doctor, How on earth the doctor isn't surprised and why the hell he didn't tell her parents that Laurel didn't have a heart!! (organ) What kind of doctor is he. This doesn't make sense at all.
Luckily, I finished reading this half-good-and-bad book. *phew*
As I wrote before, enjoyable is one of my criteria for being my favorite book. However, with these weird things, "Wings" is not my favorite. Well, but for a debut novel, it's not bad at all.

This was a wonderfully fantasy book and I'm so excited to learn it's the first in a series. I plan on starting the next one first thing tomorrow.
Reread - first read in 2012. Still cute.
Original review: A faerie, raised by human parents, ends up in a battle between worlds. A small one for now, but it seems to just be setting up for bigger ones.
I loved it. A quick, clean read, just a few hours, and it totally swept me up. The best part is the series is already complete!
