No surprises here but still kind of interesting.

I always come away from these books confused as to whether I liked them or not. The story is compelling and you are drawn in. The characters, especially Eff, are likable. The more fantasy elements of it, I could do with out though. I do wish she would provide a map. The story is loosely based on American geography and history, yet there are some weird twists to it as well which makes a little confusing. Again, it's Harry Potter meets Little House on the Prairie.

These books were okay but not super compelling, and had some weird shit going on with race. I had no idea that there was some controversy around them, but I'm glad other people were perturbed too. Really disappointing on Wrede's part.

I loved this trilogy and the final book ended so well! I just wish the the story kept going, because while you do get a satisfying ending, there is still so much to explore in this world! This series was a bit outside my normal reading so I’m so glad a friend got me to read it. It was a true unexpected gem!

I've enjoyed this series. It's YA, with our heroine starting out as a kid and most of it taking place while she's a YA herself, but this volume has her as a working adult (though still PG-rated; Sergeant Amy helps keep it that way! I like Sergeant Amy!) and we have a satisfactory conclusion, though probably not a huge surprise to anyone who's been paying attention. The magical animals in this alternate history fantasy - where non-magical mammoths are still extant in the western hemisphere in the late 1800's - give it a neat twist.

ok, not as great as the first. really anti-climatic at the end. author wraps up everything in 4 pages. who does that?

The Frontier Magic trilogy wraps up as it began, with a mix of inventive world-building and incomprehensible magical jargon. The adventure elements are strong enough to make this a fun and engaging read, but the same problems that plague the first two installments continue here. The pacing is a bit odd, the narration seems too distant, and the magical solutions to a variety of crises are full of overly complicated terms and concepts that don't actually explain much of anything.

Still, The Far West provides a satisfying conclusion to the main character's story. If you've read the first two books, by all means read the third to see how it all works out.

So good! I think my favourite of these books. And a finish that could be an ending or not, but resolves all the main dilemmas.
