Excited for this woman to take our country in the direction it so desperately needs to go. From prison reform, healthcare, immigration, affordable housing and more her past actions show promise for the future.

For a book-length campaign speech, this was great. Kamala is so damn smart and inspiring.

I like her and I liked this book but it was not as inspirational as I was hoping for. Basic information about how she got to the Senate and what is important to her.

I didn't know Kamala before her nomination as Joe Biden's running mate, but wow, is she a female force to be reckoned with. I love how bold she is with her questioning others in power or hoping to gain power. Her commitment to public service comes from a real sense of purpose. I admire how she makes a point of looking into helping others by getting to the root of the problem, not just following in the expectations one might have for her job, but always going further or deeper. Kamala's model of women seeking to help other women is so needed, and I couldn't agree with that mantra more. I'm so glad I saw that this was available on Libby for women's history month, because this woman has changed our history for the better.

Very interesting read. It was good to get a personal perspective on her views. I wish there had been more about her life and less on her various experiences in the legal world. It felt a bit too lecturing than just a good conversation with an amazing woman.

"[T]ruth is like the sun. It always rises."

I'm impressed. And I look forward to learning more... as soon as she announces her presidential candidacy.

It wasn’t till I started writing this post that I realized The Truths We Hold is a campaign book. But of course it is. Released about a week or two before Harris launched her Presidential campaign in January 2019, and with the flag-waving subtitle An American Journey, it has all the hallmarks of the genre.

And no shame on that. This sort of book has a long and respectable lineage, from JFK’s Profiles in Courage to Obama’s Audacity of Hope to Warren’s This Fight is Our Fight. Good on Harris for writing her own.

Even if this memoir wasn't deeply self-revelatory, even if it skated past some of the hard times Harris has faced, even if there were stretches of the book that felt more like a policy platform than a memoir, I am still here for all of it. Because I have such hope in seeing these convictions, these policy positions articulated and knowing that the writer will be my Vice President not too long from now.

A nice enough piece of long form campaign literature. This book did not change my life.
