I'm a big fan of Kamala Harris. She's my U.S. Senator, and I've found her impressive both in her current job and her previous job as California's Attorney General, and this book does a great job of giving you some insight into her life growing up, her early career, and her views on certain key issues that she deals with even today. However, the one major gripe I have about this book is that it follows the same predictable formula of so many other memoirs, particularly those of political figures: it's heavy on the "look how great I handled that thing" moments, and very light on the "here's one time I screwed up and learned a lesson or had to fix it" moment. I like Harris a lot, but her record is far from perfect and there are definitely missteps she's made along the way. I think it's a disservice to readers to write a memoir that ignores those missteps (and the resulting opportunities to learn and grow) in favor of only glorifying the good stuff. Still, I found this to be a well-written and interesting memoir from someone I've long admired and think will be a competitive 2020 Presidential candidate.

While good, it read like a campaign platform - I really enjoyed the parts about her early career, childhood, and personal life. It felt a little policy-heavy but I still enjoyed it.

I really admire and respect Kamala Harris, and I did enjoy learning more about this issues she considers important and about her personal history. Sometimes, though, this book felt a little more like reading an extended resume or campaign piece than a memoir.

I enjoyed that she was the narrator of the audiobook and I learned a lot about Kamala. I did not know her history with the 2008 bank lending crimes and how she fought against them. Way to go Kamala! Also I loved learning about how she met her husband and her childhood.

Long on accomplishments and policy initiatives; writing style what one would expect from a prosecuting attorney, I suspect. I do feel I understand her priorities better.

”Let’s find time between the marching and the shouting to dance, sing, and laugh - to be joyful warriors.”

What a way to start off 2021! I really enjoyed this. Kamala Harris is someone I have really come to admire, and this book made me love her even more.

I feel like this was really well-written. I know this is supposed to be her “memoir” but it actually contains more of her thoughts on policy than her life (likely because this was released right before her presidential campaign). Normally I would get bored reading an entire book about that, but I didn’t feel that way at all. Some chapters tackled topics that I found more interesting than others, but I found myself wanting to yell “YESSSSSSS” most of the time, so I guess that’s a good thing.

It feels amazing to know that we will finally have a woman in the White House - and that it will be this incredible woman.

I learned so much in this book. Kamala does a great job explaining how various parts of the government function and interact, how legislation is passed, and she gives a wide evidence-based summary of so many essential topics (ex. health care, immigration, cyber security, racial justice and equality). I loved this book!

Saved this as a special treat, to be savored after the election results. It reads like the resume it is, the pedigree of our first female Vice President - the mother that raised her to fight for justice, the career that took her to break one of the nation’s glass ceilings. I didn’t get emotional until the pictures at the end.

This book is really well structured showing us how Kamala's upbringing created a sense of social justice. Great insight into the current Vice-President of the United States

I particularly enjoyed hearing about her work as a prosecutor and AG.
