After reading all "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo," "Daisy Jones and the Six," and now "Malibu Rising," I can confidently say I'm destroyed! 🥰 Taylor Jenkins Reid is an absolutely fantastic author and I loved all three of these stories. Evelyn made me cry, Daisy entertained me greatly, and Malibu Rising really made me think. The themes about family, love, and what our parents pass on to us are all extremely well written. A relatively fast read as the story takes place over the course of 1 day and is explained over many years.
Also!! I absolutely love the way that the very first page talks about fire not only connects  to the literal fire at the end of the novel but also the turmoil between characters and within themselves.
Definitely worth the read after those other two books 😉

The first half of the book had me in a chokehold, I could not stop reading. I absolutely love TJR’s signature writing move of introducing the backstory to make you fall in love (or despise) the characters.
In the beginning I thought that Mick and June’s love was so beautiful, that I hoped one of them would die rather than leave each other, for love that pure to exist
. It is ultimately a story about love and family, but it is sometimes painful how much love can hurt. great read.

This book was a bit of a slow-burner, for me. After reading (and loving) TJR's previous novels, I felt a little bit disappointed at how long it took for me to get into this one – it actually took me a couple of months to finish it because I didnt have the urge to keep picking it up. However, when I got to the middle of the story, I really enjoyed it and it didnt take me long to finish it.
This is a story about family – more specifically, the power and love of siblings – and overall, I really enjoyed it.
