this was so great until the third act fuckery. Drew going to Somalia was just stupid and unnecessary. I hate when authors awkwardly shove a break-up in where it's not necessary.
also, as I've found in some of Elizabeth O'Roarke's books, while I love the external conflict (the uncertainty of if Josh was hurt in the attack), we never get to really feel it because we rush past it so quickly for everything to wrap up. The third act break-up AND the external conflict is just too much to fit in there IMO
but still as a whole I really liked it and I will definitely be reading the other books in the series

This whole series is giving indulgence and easy entertainment in perfection
Let me start by saying this book needed so much more research than what was (probably) done.
I was mostly enjoying this up until the 70% mark, after that when
I encourage you the read some of the one star reviews left by Somali users, but also a lot of the other one star reviews that put into words what's wrong with this book.

Spoiler
Josh went back to Somalia and Drew started thinking about visiting him at the refugee camp things changed. It all went downhill when she actually got on a private jet, with, I quote, "a backpack that holds a few changes of clothes-and lingerie". GIRL?? This specific thing felt so disrespectful. And don't get me started on the way Somalia is portrayed throughout the book and some of the jokes that are in this. I honestly don't remember the first book to be like this, so I'm wondering if I forgot about it or if the author "went wild" while writing the second bookI encourage you the read some of the one star reviews left by Somali users, but also a lot of the other one star reviews that put into words what's wrong with this book.
Love Hawaii, love celebrity romance stories, and was very pleasantly surprised by the progression - not forced or flimsy at all.
This is what it's like, I think, when someone actually cares about you. They remember you get carsick. They worry about your inhaler.
Just got finished reading this absolute gem of a book! Josh and Joel's (aka Six) parents have planned a once in a lifetime vacation to Hawaii and invited Drew (who is Six's on and off again ex) and Sloane (a girl Josh was seeing). However, Six lands himself into some trouble and isn't there for the first half of the trip and Slone ends her trip early. Queue Drew and Josh bonding time! I loved seeing these two together. Their chemistry was soo cute. I loved how much Josh truthfully cares about Drew.
"I want the real you, bad or good. Don't pretend things are fine if they're not, okay?"
This book was the perfect read for a cold winter day because BOY AM I IMAGINING being in Hawaii after reading this.
I loved reading about Drew's character development and career. She is a singer and you can see how toxic her career and relationship with her manager is. I loved seeing her overcome that!
This book was super cute and I would totally recommend it!
I was gifted an arc copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I didn't think this book could top Hayes and Tali, but Drew and Josh are couple goals!! I loved all the different places this books goes, the storyline was so captivating and all the characters were just amazing, well minus Six of course. I can't wait to start book 3
I should've reviewed this once I read it because all I remember is that I loved it.
It’s incredibly frustrating when authors don’t invest the time to research the countries they write about, especially when they rely on biased portrayals fueled by Western media. It feels disrespectful to see a country, like Somalia, misrepresented as nothing more than a dangerous or hopeless place. This kind of oversimplification and reliance on stereotypes not only harms the real people from those countries but also perpetuates a skewed view of the world. It’s crucial for writers to dig deeper and present a more accurate, nuanced depiction instead of repeating propaganda that reinforces negative perceptions.
This book had many amazing elements that set the story up for success. And it’s a pleasure to read about the slow-burn romance but, when you try to dig a bit deeper into some the character’s relationships with there family, it feels like the book just scratched the surface.
The family aspects were the most interesting but just as information was being uncovered, another more pressing event would happen. The fmc’s past seemed like a ginormous handful of really awful situations that were addressed, just not in a meaningful way that wasn’t used to progress the main relationship.
Despite the lack of depth to certain aspects of the story, I enjoyed seeing the relationship grow during and after the Hawaii vacation. Many books use the vacation as the setting where the entire story takes place but this one knew its place.
