Now here's *the* book I would memorize word by word if I could. I work with trauma daily and this was a wonderful addition to my collection. I will be rereading it again for my thesis but, for now, I'm done with my first time reading.

My therapist told me to read this book, and of course I put it off because if she’s recommending it, it’s gonna tilt me sideways for a bit. It’s an exploration of how the body and brain store trauma (both of mine are full up) and it was actually very eye opening. It was another dense read, heavy content, but I did come away from it with a better understanding of myself and the world around me. It was actually a good kick in the ass to pull the trigger on some mental health stuff I’ve been dancing around for a long time. I’ve referenced this book in a lot of conversations at work this month, and I’m cramming it down the throat of anyone looking for something to read. Highly recommend.

  • Being able to feel safe with other people is probably the single most important aspect of mental health; safe connections are fundamental to meaningful and satisfying lives.
